When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. Peter could not imagine his Master nailed to a cross, and told Him so. But Matthew chapter 16 records a stern rebuke from Jesus: “Get thee behind me, Satan!” Jesus knew that the cross was His destiny, planned by God from all eternity.

As Christians, we run life’s race to please Jesus. Sometimes though, like Peter, we resist going in the direction God is pointing. That resistance comes with a high price. In this message we learn about the cost of avoiding the cross.

Today it’s fashionable to think of truth as a personal possession—you have your truth, and I have my truth. But then we hit the jarring claim of Jesus:  “I am the truth.” In this message we learn about moving from truth as mere opinion to truth as a person.

Many rabbit-trails try to pull us off the main track. But believers know they should not be sidelined by lesser matters. In this message we focus on a defining moment for a great disciple of Jesus. This moment set his aim at the goal line, and nowhere else.

In Matthew chapter 16, Jesus revealed to Peter that He was the Son of the living God, and Peter acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ. The same must be true for you and me. Following the crowd is not enough. Like Peter, we must answer the question “What do you think of Jesus?”

One day in northern Israel, in a place called Caesarea Philippi, Peter found himself entrusted with some keys. In Matthew chapter 16, these keys were handed to him by none other than Jesus, and they open a really big door.

Violent winds can arise quickly on the Sea of Galilee, turning tranquility into terror. In Matthew chapter 14, the Bible paints a vivid picture of faith coming alive in the midst of upheaval. In this message we learn about Peter’s faith in the Jesus who controls the sea.
