He Was Not of This World, Part 2 of 2 (The Baby Who Changed the World)

December 26, 2016

Most people like the lights, the decorations and the gifts. The majority of our culture is caught up in the festivities that surround this winter season. So why do believers celebrate Christmas? We may like lights and gifts, but we celebrate because Jesus renounced the glories of heaven to fulfill the Father’s will. He became a man and died for a sinful human race.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. When you read the words of Jesus, you find some radical sayings that confounded the people of His day. His mother Mary had insight into the effect her son would have, and spoke about this in her Magnificat.

The world neither understood nor welcomed the arrival of Jesus. The things He said caused bickering and strife among those opposed to changing their ways. Let’s look at an amazing revelation given to His mother Mary.

Jesus did not appear on earth without advance notice. Many Old Testament prophecies foretold his arrival. In the New Testament, we find an amazing prophecy given just before His birth through a man named Zechariah.

Over two thousand years ago Jesus was born in a small country in the Middle East. That birth became the turning point between BC and AD. But another child was born first, a forerunner of Jesus, whose name was John.

December 25th was not the day Jesus was born, but it is the date set aside for us to honor that birth. For Mary His mother, that birth began a long period of pain and sorrow, a personal toll we seldom consider during this time of year.

Soon we’ll celebrate the central event in human history: the coming of Jesus Christ to live among us. While Christians can now enjoy the benefits of the Savior’s birth, life, death and resurrection, there was one person who felt great pain when He came.

If you’re about to run to the store for gifts, remember this: the holiday has roots in a far different culture at a very different time and place. Listen today as we come down to earth with another view of Christmas.
