Following the Right Leader, Part 1 of 2 (Chiseled by the Master's Hand)

April 6, 2018

As believers, we run life’s race to please Jesus. He sets the pace as the goal we aim for every day. He’s the leader we’re eager to follow. In this message we discover how Peter learned a great lesson from his new Leader, a lesson on trusting beyond his own experience.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. When Christ calls someone, life is never the same. Jesus called Peter from a life as a fisherman to a life he never could have imagined. For his new task, Peter had to accept a new name from his new Master. God used Peter, and none of us can know whom God will use in the future.

The Bible tells us to run life’s race to please Jesus, whose sacrifice on the cross bought the forgiveness of our sins. In this message we begin a series on the life of a man who ran his race just like that. The Apostle Peter was a man who was chiseled by the Master’s hand.

At Emmaus, the resurrected Jesus walked with disciples who were dejected and sorrowful, and they did not even recognize Him. But their hearts were strangely warmed by this passerby. Inviting Him to dinner, they found themselves face to face with the One they loved, but never expected.

Early on the disciples of Jesus argued over who would sit with Him in the kingdom. But when Jesus died, their dreams died. Their best-laid plans were in ruins. For some, they thought it seemed best to move on and forget those three wonderful years with Christ. In this message we learn how the resurrected Jesus revived their dreams, and how He can revive yours.

As we think of the resurrection of Jesus, we recall a doubting disciple who needed solid evidence before believing the Master was really alive. Jesus showed Thomas his wounded hands and side. He also said, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Just one day after riding into Jerusalem, Jesus cursed a fig tree for not bearing fruit. As we learn more about this event, it’s clear that bearing godly fruit is very important to God.  In this message we learn the implications for you and for me.

Some opportunities have a limited time window. Jesus offered Himself to the nation Israel when entering Jerusalem on a donkey. They rejected Him, and the city was later destroyed. The triumphal entry of Christ was both a joyous and a solemn occasion, and we need to understand the high cost of lost opportunities.

Do you ever wonder what eternity will be like? The best description we have is that of the Holy City, the New Jerusalem. Here, the saints will enjoy perfect health, serving God together into “the ages of the ages.”

After the Millennium, heaven will literally descend to earth in the form of the New Jerusalem. This spectacular city will house the redeemed of all the ages. It’s what Jesus referred to when He said, “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places.”

Is the idea of hell repugnant to you? The Bible teaches that there is an ultimate lake of fire where unbelievers will go. But why will unbelievers be judged this way? And what is the basis of this judgment?
