The Legal and Vital Work of Salvation Part 26: Is the Church Called to Take Over Society?
Is the church meant to take over politics, entertainment, and government? Dr. Abel Damina says that's not what Jesus meant by "the kingdom of God." "My kingdom is not of this world," he teaches, pointing to Jesus's own words to Pilate — "the kingdom of God cometh not with observation... the kingdom of God is within you." This episode of Reintroducing Jesus, Beyond Religion corrects a popular but, Dr. Damina argues, unbiblical picture of what the kingdom actually is: Christ's reign in the heart of the believer, not a social or political movement.
Announcer: Feel the power.
Welcome to Righteous Invasion of Truth with Dr. Abel Damina.
[Speaking in tongues]
Dr. Abel Damina: In the name of Jesus. Father, we rejoice that we have access into the deep things of God by the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for the opportunity to fellowship, the opportunity to come before your holy word this morning humbly and respectfully. We pray for everybody connected to the service this morning, both in this building, in our house centers and campuses all over the world, including our radio audience and everyone connected to the service today.
We rejoice that by the end of this service, your people will be built up, equipped, edified and Jesus will be glorified. In Jesus' precious name and every believer says a powerful Amen.
Lift your right hands to heaven. Let's release our faith together as we say these words. I am born of God. I am born of the word. The word of God is my nature. I do not struggle to do the word. I do the word naturally. Therefore, today, I will understand the word of His grace. I will be built up. By the end of this service, I will never be the same. Never, ever be the same again. In Jesus' name, and every believer says a powerful Amen.

And everybody online, all our internet community, help us, share the video, tag some people, bring people on, let's flood the global planet with the fragrance of Jesus' grace.
Now, you make sure you grab your notebook, your Bible, your pen, and you can be seated with your sweet smart self as we get into the word of His grace. Glory to God. Now,
If you were not here in the first service this morning, I will encourage you to get the message, get the CD, get the teaching or go on my page and listen to that broadcast. Especially if you were here last night, or if you were not in the service last night, then don't even begin from today, begin from last night. If you were not with us on Friday, then don't begin from last night, begin from Friday. If you are not with us on Wednesday and Thursday, don't even begin from Friday. Begin from So you need to begin from where you were the last time because we have progressed in the teaching of the legality and the vitality of the work of salvation.
And that's so fundamental and critical because you don't joke with the issues of salvation because they are issues of eternity. And we're so glad that the Holy Spirit helps us by the scriptures to bring clarity in this subject of study.
Hebrews chapter 2 verse 1, Hebrews chapter 2 from verse number 1. Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them sleep. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward. How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him. God also bearing them witness both with signs and wonders and with divers miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to his own will.
Now, we have been looking at what happened from the cross to the throne, what happened from the cross to the throne. Which is going to be purely the work of revelation, because what happens after a man dies cannot be known by physical men, it can only be revealed. So what happened from the cross to the throne has to be pure revelation knowledge. And that's why we're taking time to teach you precept upon precept from the pages of the epistles and the scriptures, which is the canon.
I like us to visit a few things we have already discussed in this service, but it's going to bring more clarity to all we have been saying. What did Jesus do? What did Jesus do?
Now, every step of the way, from where Jesus identified with us on the cross, to the point of spiritual death, to His resurrection and to His ascension, everything He did was for us. That's the vitality of the work of salvation. Everything Jesus did was for us. That means that today, if Jesus identified with me, that is what we call salvation.
Just like in Romans chapter 6, it says, we are buried with Him and we are raised with Him together. Buried with Him and raised with Him together, what we call the language of identification. Our confession of faith is that identification we have with Christ. We need them to know what exactly did Jesus do and how we identify with it today. We began to look at how He was raised from the dead.
Now, people think that Jesus being raised from the dead is similar to Lazarus being raised from the dead. But that's not true. Because Jesus's resurrection is different from Lazarus's resurrection. And in a few minutes, you will find out in the course of this study. We're going to see something in a moment about that, that makes it unique to us. It makes the resurrection of Jesus unique to us.
So let's backtrack to the gospel. We spoke about partial revelation, the Old Testament, written in partial revelation and how things came in the Old Testament, in types and shadows. When we hear the word gospel, people always think we're referring to the same thing. The word gospel don't always mean the same thing. Please listen carefully. It doesn't always mean the same thing. The word gospel is from a Greek word, `euangelion`, which implies glad tidings.
Now, we will make a distinction as it were, the differentiate of the gospel in the Bible. Different is the word `heteros` or the word `allos`. `heteros` or the word `allos`. `allos` means another of the same kind. `allos`, A-L-L-O-S, `allos`, another of the same kind. Like when Jesus said, you know, that I will send you another comforter. All right? Another comforter means `allos parakletos`, another comforter, meaning another of the same kind, another of the same kind. Now, the word `heteros` in the Greek means another of a different kind, another of a different kind.
Now we're looking at another of the same kind, the gospel, another of the same kind in a partial revelation. In a partial revelation or progressive revelation. Hebrews chapter 1 verse 1 and 2. Hebrews chapter 1 verse 1 and 2. God, who at sundry times and in divers manners, spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets. Next verse. Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son. Actually, the original is in His Son. Because Jesus is not speaking for God. Jesus is God speaking for Himself. So, He has spoken unto us in His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds.
Now, please pay attention. In Matthew chapter 24 verse 14. Listen carefully. Matthew chapter 24 verse 14. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations. And then shall the end come. And then shall the end come. This is really where I want to point your attention to. Think about it. People always conclude that this gospel has to be preached before Jesus come. But Jesus when He said this gospel, He was emphatic, this gospel of the kingdom. Now, it is a differentiated of the gospel.
Let us see how it goes. Matthew chapter 4 verse 23. Matthew chapter 4 verse 23. And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. Jesus was preaching the gospel of the kingdom. Matthew chapter 9 verse 35. Matthew chapter 9 verse 35. And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogue and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. The gospel of the kingdom. So Jesus actually was preaching a gospel of the kingdom.
John said, the kingdom of God is at hand. The word at hand doesn't mean at hand, it's a form of speech or a figure of speech. It actually means the kingdom of God has arrived. It has arrived. That's the meaning of at hand. What Jesus was saying is the kingdom of God has come. What John was saying is that Jesus on earth is the kingdom of God on arrival. Because Jesus is the embodiment of the kingdom of God.
Now, there are people in there's a you know, there are preachers of the gospel who have taken this to a place where it is out of scripture. And they call it the kingdom message. All right? And when they talk about the kingdom message, they talk about Christians taking over politics, Christians taking over entertainment, Christians taking over sports and that when all that happens and Christians have taken over everywhere, that is when the kingdom of God has come. But that is not scripture at all. That is extra-biblical. That is making the Bible say what the Bible is not saying.
First of all, Jesus in His plan for the church, when He was speaking, He said to them, you know, that He wants to make us a kingdom of priests and kings. And when He rose from the dead, He said, He has made all of us a kingdom of priests and kings. Look at it in Revelation chapter 1 verse 5. Pay attention. Revelation chapter 1 verse number 5. And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, talking about after resurrection, the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth.
Unto Him that loved us, past tense, and washed us, past tense, from our sins in His own blood. Next verse. And hath made us. He has already made us kings and priests unto God and His Father. To Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. He's not going to make us kings and priests. He has already made us kings and priests. Not because we are in a political party, not because we have taken over sports and entertainment, but because we are born of God, we are kings and priests unto our God. Priests and kings unto our God.
So, which means that this kingdom of God is the sitting in Christ, is our position in Christ. It is not an office or a conglomerate or a political position. Scriptures always differentiate the two between Jesus, His kingdom, which is our position in Christ and the secular world. Please pay attention because it's very important.
Now, pay attention. Jesus, Jesus told us in Matthew 12:28. Matthew chapter 12 verse 28. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. If I cast out devils by the power of God, then it means that the casting out of devils is a sign that the kingdom you've been waiting for has arrived. Meaning that the kingdom of God is not a political office. The kingdom of God is not an academic office somewhere. The kingdom of God is not taking over sports. The kingdom of God is the embodiment of Christ and the believer seated in Christ. The kingdom of God is the believer in Christ. It's nothing secular. It's nothing physical. It's the believer in Christ.
To explain further, Jesus mentions casting out devils. Look at Luke chapter 17 verse 20. Please pay attention. Luke chapter 17 verse number 20. And when He was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, He answered them and said, the kingdom of God cometh not with observation. You don't look for the kingdom, it's not a physical thing. It never comes by observation. Read me the next verse. Verse 21. Verse 21 of Luke. Neither shall they say, lo here and lo there, for behold, the kingdom of God is within you. The kingdom of God is within you. The kingdom of God is inside you. Christ in you is the kingdom of God.
The kingdom of God is not a physical organization. The kingdom of God is not you taking over the music industry. That's not the kingdom of God. The kingdom of God is Jesus in the heart of the believer. It is a spiritual reality. It's nothing physical. And you know, there are a lot of preachers who preach this thing I'm talking about right now. I used to preach it back in the days because I was taught that the kingdom of God is taking over politics, taking over government, taking over political institutions. But that is not the kingdom. The kingdom is the embodiment of Christ Himself in the believer and the believer in Christ. It's a spiritual reality. It's nothing physical. Please pay attention.
Let me give you another scripture quickly that the kingdom is not in buildings or structures. Christ is the kingdom. Christ is the kingdom. He told Pilate the same thing. In John chapter 18 verse 36. John chapter 18 verse 36. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. My kingdom is not of this world. So I don't know which scripture those preachers have been reading where they are saying that until the church takes over the physical, governmental and societal institutions, that's when the kingdom has come. Jesus emphatically in black and white said, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight that I should not be delivered to the Jews. But now is my kingdom not from hence. Now is my kingdom not from hence. 37. 37. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world that I should be a witness unto the truth. Everyone that is of the truth heareth my voice.
It is neither in the commercial, the kingdom of God, nor political world. It does not involve soldiers and human sophistry and structures, the kingdom of God. It doesn't involve all of that. Jesus never asked anyone in His days to desire governmental powers. Jesus never asked anybody in His days and He did not preach a kingdom takeover. Jesus didn't preach that. Because if Jesus had preached that, He will have demonstrated it at least. He will have taken over one governmental position, or He will have ensured that Peter and James and John were either commissioners or prime ministers. Because if that's what He wanted, He will have just asked angels to move into action. But He never. He never took over anybody's position. Neither did He give a lecture on political science.
Jesus never gave any message on political science. Neither Paul, Peter, James, John, any of the apostles. Because that's not what the kingdom of God is about. Neither did He give any lecture on how to survive the effect of COVID-19. There was no such lecture by Jesus because that is not the kingdom of God. He was emphatic, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants know I will engage angels. They will just move within few hours. I will have my people in political positions. Jesus Jesus wouldn't need to belong to a political party. He Himself will have been a political party. Just his movement alone, he will have taken over cities and made Peter the king of Jerusalem, made John the king of Nazareth, made Peter, I mean, James, the king of of of of Bethlehem. He will have just appointed them. And that's what they thought. That's what they thought Jesus came to do. Because look at their assumptions, and that's why many preachers are, as I speak. Look at their assumptions. Acts chapter 1 verse 5. Please pay attention. Acts chapter 1 verse 5. For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost, not many days hence, because that's what Jesus offers, Holy Ghost baptism, not water baptism. Next verse.
When they therefore were come together, they asked of Him saying, Lord, will thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? They were thinking of politics. That's where the disciples' minds were. When will you collect political power and give it back to Israel? When will you restore governmental influence to Israel? Look at Jesus's answer, very instructive. Next verse. And He said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father had put in His own power. Next verse. But you shall receive power. That's the only thing I'm here for. My kingdom is Holy Ghost. You shall receive power after the Holy Ghost has come upon you. And this is how my kingdom will operate. You shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria. You go and preach the gospel. My kingdom is in the preaching of the gospel, so that Satan's kingdom is removed from the heart of men and the kingdom of God is replaced in the heart of men. That's the kingdom.
The kingdom is not in political. The kingdom is not in social. The kingdom is not in commercial. The kingdom is not in physical. It is the reality of Jesus in the hearts of men. The reality of Jesus in the hearts of men. Please pay attention. Now, Jesus makes a distinction in Matthew chapter 10 verse 25. Matthew chapter 10 verse 25. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master and the servant as his Lord. If they have called the master of the house, Beelzebub. And you know, that's what they accused Jesus. They said Jesus had a demon. How much more shall they call them of his household? Okay, next verse. Fear them not therefore, for there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed and hid that shall not be known. Next verse.
