The Legal and Vital Work of Salvation Part 23: The Resurrection: Where the Real Victory Happened

October 3, 2026
00:00

Did Jesus and Satan ever actually fight for your soul? Dr. Abel Damina says the drama many believers imagine never happened — "Jesus and Satan never met," and in fact "Satan didn't know when Jesus rose" until well after the resurrection. He teaches that Jesus's real triumph over Satan came not at the cross, which was a place of identification, but through the resurrection, when "the gates of hell" — spiritual death — were defeated once and for all. This episode of Reintroducing Jesus, Beyond Religion replaces a common mental picture of spiritual warfare with what Dr. Damina says Scripture actually shows.

Dr. Abel Damina: Welcome to Righteous Invasion of Truth with Dr. Abel Damina.

Dr. Abel Damina: Father, in the name of Jesus, we rejoice that tonight we have access into the deep things of God by the Holy Spirit. And we thank you for the privilege of coming before your word humbly and respectfully tonight. I pray that everybody connected to this service around the world, the eyes of each one's understanding be flooded with light. Clarity comes by the teaching of the word, veils fall off, and we decree that your people are built up, equipped, edified. And by the end of this service, Jesus is glorified and we all be the better for it. We give you praise and glory for answered prayer in Jesus' precious name. And every believer, say it powerfully, amen.

Lift your right hands to heaven. Let's release our faith together as we say these words. I am born of God. I am born of the Word. The Word of God is my nature. I do not struggle to do the Word. I do the Word naturally. Therefore, today I will understand the Word of His grace. I will be built up. By the end of this service, I will never be the same. Never ever be the same again. In Jesus' name, and every believer, say it powerfully, amen.

We want to welcome everybody connected to this service by way of Kingdom Life Network, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and all of our Akwa Ibom State audience on radio, Comfort FM and Excel FM. It's a joy to have everybody connected to the service tonight. Hey guys, you get ready, we're going to have an exciting time of studying the Word of His grace. Grab a pen, a notebook, and your Bible, and you can be seated with your sweet, smart self tonight as we get into the Word of His grace.

I want to quickly ask our social media community to help us share the videos. Get more people to come in, invite more people to come on the platforms and tag some people, create watch parties. Let's flood the blue marble planet with the fragrance of Jesus, His grace. Now, we're beginning tonight this way. I want to begin first of all by reading Hebrews chapter 2 verse 1 to 4 and then we get into something. Hebrews chapter 2. Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him? Verse 4. God also bearing them witness both with signs and wonders and with diverse miracles and gifts of the Holy Ghost according to His own will. We've been examining in Soteria Season 7, the legal and the vital work of salvation. The legal and the vital work of salvation.

And we've traveled quite some distance in the course of this study and if you're just joining for the first time, I will ask you to try to make sure you get the previous teachings so that they will help and help you to come to clarity so you are not thrown into some confusion because of certain concepts that we're going to be dealing with in the course of the study tonight. Now, we saw that there is the word spoken by angels which was steadfast. And it's talking about the Old Testament, which is what we call the law. Now, it's important for you to realize that the Bible is actually divided into two compartments, the Old Testament and the New Testament.

And actually the Old Testament was man's covenant, man's covenant. That's what it is. Galatians chapter 3 verse number 17. The Old Testament is man's covenant. Pay attention. And this I say that the covenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ. The law, which was 430 years after. So there was a covenant in Christ and God is not dual. The only covenant that God has is the covenant in Christ. So the law, which was 430 years after, which we call the Old Testament, cannot disannul. Now, it should make the promise of God which is before the law of no effect. Next verse.

For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise. The covenant before of God in Christ is what we call the promise of God to Abraham. But God gave it to Abraham by promise. Next verse. Wherefore then served the law? It was added. It was not the plan. It was added. Why? Because of transgressions. Till the seed should come to whom the promise was made. And it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Now, come back to verse 16 of Galatians chapter 3. Galatians 3:16.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He said not unto seeds as of many, but as of one. And to thy seed, which is Christ. So listen carefully. The Old Testament is mystery. The New Testament is revelation. Look at Romans chapter 16 verse 25. Romans chapter 16 verse 25. Now to him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery. Revelation, New Testament. Mystery, Old Testament.

So the Old Testament is classified. The New Testament is declassified, meaning the Old Testament is the concealed message and the Old Testament is the concealed message and the New Testament is the revealed message. Meaning the New Testament is the answers to the questions in the Old Testament. The New Testament is the answers to the questions in the Old Testament, meaning that the New Testament forms the doctrinal basis for our faith in Christ. The New Testament forms the doctrinal basis of our prophets, Jesus himself, the cornerstone. Meaning whatever the New Testament, faith. Now, the reason why I said that is because I'm going to get into something tonight.

We've been looking at the devil in the past few days. We've been looking at the devil, right? And we began to talk about how does the devil come in to the legality and vitality of the redemptive sacrifice of Jesus. And then we looked at one of those scriptures and I'm going to go straight into it tonight. Isaiah chapter 14 verse 12 to 14. Isaiah chapter 14 verse 12 to 14. How art thou fallen from heaven, oh Lucifer, son of the morning. How art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations. Next verse.

For thou hast said in thy heart, I will ascend into heaven. I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation in the sides of the north. Next verse. I will ascend up, I will ascend above the heights of the cloud. I will be like, like, like the Most High. Next verse. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell to the sides of the pit. Notice what he was to do, to ascend unto. And yesterday we established that for him to have been wanting to ascend unto means he was on earth, means he was not in heaven, right? And the earth we saw began in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1.

However, in the teaching of this text, there are a few controversies here and there. When you look at the old Hebrew translation of that particular text of scripture, they had an overkill here because the construction of this place was referring to a person on earth. However, if we read the portion of scripture, just like we say, Satan was never revealed in the Old Testament. Satan in the Old Testament was hidden, was veiled. So when you read this place, you will not see Satan literally because he is veiled. You won't see Satan. But when you come into the epistles, you will undress Satan there.

The word Lucifer here, sad enough, with due respect, was a bad rendering, the word Lucifer in that particular text. Because the word here, the word here really is the word the son of the dawn or a morning star. That's the meaning of Lucifer. It refers more to the action of a being than the nature of the being. Please pay attention. It refers more to the action of the being than the nature of that particular being. And something that reflects light, that's the meaning of Lucifer. Because this same statement, Lucifer, when translated properly in the Greek, is a title for Jesus, the son of the morning, the morning star.

All right? Look at the book of Second Peter chapter 1 verse 19 and see how it is used. Second Peter chapter 1 verse number 19. We have also a more sure word of prophecy, whereunto you do well that you take heed as unto a light that shineth in a dark place until the day dawn and the day star, referring to Jesus. The day dawn and the day star there is Lucifer. Until the day dawn and the day star arise in your hearts, the same word, Lucifer. Now look at Isaiah chapter 12 verse 14. Isaiah chapter 12 verse 14.

And in that day, Isaiah chapter 12 verse number 14. Isaiah chapter 12 verse number 14. Is there no Isaiah 12:14 or sorry, 14:12. 14:12. Isaiah 14:12. Isaiah chapter 14 verse 12. Who is on that system? How art thou fallen from heaven, oh Lucifer, son of the morning. How art thou cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations. The word Lucifer there. Lucifer refers to the action of this being rather than his nature. And we will see why it is the action than the nature in a moment.

So the truth of the matter, the truth of the matter is, it is the manifestation of Satan. It is the manifestation of Satan. So the statement of judgment there was referring to judgment for Satan, because what we see there is not the nature but rather the manifestation. Look at Ezekiel 28 verse 11. Ezekiel also made reference to that character. Ezekiel 28 verse number 11. Glory to God. Ezekiel 28:11. Ernest, please go to the computer room, make sure I have the right person on that system. Moreover, the word of the Lord came unto me saying, next verse.

Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus. And say unto him, thus saith the Lord, thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. Next verse. Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was thy covering. The sardius, topaz, diamond, the beryl, the onyx, the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, the carbuncle, and gold. The workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou was created. In the day that thou was created. Is even more, more clearer here.

Now look at verse 14. Verse 14 of the same Ezekiel 28. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth. And I have said thee so. Thou was upon the holy mountain of God. Thou has walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15. Thou was perfect in thy ways from the day that thou was created, till iniquity was found in thee. Again, the construction of the Hebrew makes it like this. In the Hebrew it defines his work rather than his nature. His work rather than his nature.

By the time you look at the Epistle, you will uncover Satan completely from these scriptures. Because the reference there is to Eden and iniquity. Eden and iniquity. The next question is, how was he created? Satan again was shrouded in mystery. How was he created? Look at Psalm 22 verse 6. Psalm 22 verse number 6. But I am a worm and no man. A reproach of men and despised of the people. This is Jesus now being spoken of in prophecy. Look at verse 12. 22 verse 12 of Psalms. Psalm 22:12. Many bulls have compassed me. Talking about the works of darkness. And strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. Next verse.

They gaped upon me with their mouths as a ravening and a roaring lion. Do you know that again here without the Holy Spirit, you won't know what he's talking about here. When you come to Jesus, you will see what the bulls are. You will see it as the manifestation of Satan in those guys, especially when as you do with the death and crucifixion of Jesus. So, in the same way, Satan was shrouded in mystery in the Old Testament. No matter how many translations you get on this scripture, you will lose it until you have to come to the Epistles to uncover the devil.

So to see that these acts were of the devil, that pointer to Eden is the little pointer we have. Eden, you were in Eden until iniquity was found in you. That already tells us that this shrouded guy in mystery will have to refer to Satan because nobody else has that kind of description than the devil himself. There was a being before Satan, obviously. God did not create an evil being. God did not create an evil being. Now, in what form could he have been? In what form could he have been? Just like Jonah we have seen, who was in the belly of a whale and he said, I am in hell.

He's in the belly of a whale, Jonah, and he says, I am in hell. Look at the mode of communication. It will take coming to Epistles and the words of Jesus to unlock that scripture. That's why you must always carry along the entire counsel of God. We can unveil the devil. Look at Ephesians chapter 6. Remember, while we're reading Ephesians chapter 6, we are talking about how Jesus destroyed the power of death. Just like we read yesterday in Hebrews chapter 2 verse 14 and 15. Now look at Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10. Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Next verse.

Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Verse 12. Now pay attention to 12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Look at the composition there, principalities and powers. Look at Ephesians chapter 3 verse 10. Ephesians chapter 3 verse 10. To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God. Again, principalities and powers.

Look at Colossians chapter 1 verse 16. Colossians chapter 1 verse number 16. For by him were all things created that are in heaven and that are in earth, visible and invisible. Whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him and for him. So the question now is, how then was the devil before he became Satan? Or in what form was the devil before he became Satan? Please pay attention. Hebrews chapter 1 verse number 4. Hebrews chapter 1 verse 4.

Being made so much better than the angels as he had by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. Next verse. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my son, this day have I begotten thee. And again, I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. Next verse. And again, when he bringeth in the first begotten into the world, he saith, and let all the angels of God worship him. Verse 7. And of the angels, he saith, who maketh his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire. Look at verse 13 and 14 of Hebrews chapter 1. Hebrews 1:13 and 14.

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool. Verse 14. Are they not all, whether they are Cherubim, Seraphim, Archangels, whatever, are they not all ministering spirits sent forth, ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? So it means that angels were created for him. They were created for man. And they are referred to as principalities and powers. They were created for man. And they are referred to as principalities and powers.

So in what form could the devil have existed? Definitely in the form of an angel. Definitely in the form of an angel. Look at Second Peter chapter 2 verse 4. Please pay attention. Second Peter chapter 2 verse 4. For if God spared not the angels that sinned, the angels that sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus. The word hell there, the word hell there is the word Tartarus and delivered them into the chains of darkness to be reserved unto judgment. To be reserved unto judgment. So the angels that sinned were cast into Tartarus, hell, Tartarus, and they are there on reservation.

They are not in hell. The angels that sinned are not in hell. They are in Tartarus reserved unto the day of judgment. Reserved unto the day of judgment. The word angel is from the Greek word Angelos. Angelos means a messenger. Angelos means a messenger. The one that ministers or the one that ministers your message. The essence of the angels was to minister to men in Christ Jesus. So the angel who became Satan, whose name was never Lucifer. His name was never Lucifer because there's no way he could have been Lucifer. Lucifer is used for Jesus as the morning star, all right? But there's an angel like that. His sin was definitely a sin against man. The devil sinned against man. Because he was supposed to serve man. He was supposed to minister to man. So his sin was definitely a sin against man, the obedience and worship of man. The murderer in him came from that. The hatred in him came from that. He hated man and he wanted to murder man. Remember he was a murderer from the beginning. You are of your father the devil, John 8:44. He was a murderer.
