The Legal and Vital Work of Salvation, Part 14: Which Came First: Sin or the Law?
Where did the law come from, and what does it have to do with death and sickness? Dr. Abel Damina asks which came first, sin or the law, and answers from Romans 5:13: “Sin is not imputed when there is no law.” He explains that both the law and spiritual death followed sin. “So sin is their mother.” That is why, when Jesus dealt with sin, “He dealt with everything that follows.” Dr. Damina also explains why Jesus healed everywhere He went: as a pointer to what He would ultimately do when He died. In this part of Reintroducing Jesus, Beyond Religion, you will gain a clearer picture of what Galatians 3:13 says Christ redeemed us from, and why Dr. Damina calls it a complete work.

Dr. Abel Damina: All right, we'll be looking at Soteria, Season 7. And we've been examining the legal and vital work of salvation. The legal and vital work of salvation. Hebrews chapter 2 from verse 1 to 4. Hebrews chapter 2 from verse 1 to 4. Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.
Dr. Abel Damina: Next verse. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation, which are the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him. God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with diverse miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will.
Dr. Abel Damina: So the writer of Hebrews calls this salvation, so great salvation. That means that the depth of the understanding of this subject has to also be great. If the writer can say something is so great, great things like that cannot be known by logic. Great things like that cannot be known by logic. Like the scriptures calls it, the unsearchable riches of Christ. It is unsearchable to the mind, but the spirit searches, yea, the deep things of God.
Dr. Abel Damina: So we can actually know, even if they appear unsearchable to the mind, we can know them by the spirit. So the subject of salvation requires revelation of the spirit of God. So we are looking at redemption. Redemption, and like I said, we are looking at redemption as the price paid. The price paid in salvation.
Dr. Abel Damina: Redemption is the price paid. Look at 1st Corinthians chapter 1, verse number 30. 1st Corinthians chapter 1, verse number 30. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. Now pay attention. Now when he said wisdom, he was not referring to I receive wisdom or I receive wisdom for daily activities. No.
Dr. Abel Damina: Somebody will say Christ is my wisdom. Or I don't require wisdom. Or He has been made unto us wisdom. Or He has been made unto us righteousness. As though Christ was wrapped up as righteousness. Now there is a level we can teach that and it is scriptural. But you see, what he was referring to in this context is the sacrifice of Jesus.
Dr. Abel Damina: That the way God gave Jesus to us was wisdom. That the way God gave Jesus to us was righteousness. It was wisdom. It was righteousness. And you know, the scripture tells us that the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness. That is, the preaching of Christ on the tree is foolishness. Yet, it is the wisdom of God.
Dr. Abel Damina: It is foolishness to those without, and to those of us in the Kingdom, the preaching of the cross is the wisdom of God. Christ on the tree is righteousness to us. Yet it appears silly to the unbelievers. Christ on the tree is sanctification to us. Yet to the unbeliever, it appears foolish. Christ on the tree is our redemption. So, he was not referring to the person of Jesus, but rather to the gift of Jesus.
Dr. Abel Damina: He was not referring to the person of Jesus, but rather to the gift of Jesus. Please pay attention. Now, Jesus was made unto us. Made unto us. God made Jesus an offering to us. What was important to humanity is not the incarnation. Please listen very carefully. What was important to humanity was not the incarnation. It was not that God became a man and was born by Mary. And it was not the account of the four gospels, where Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, turned water to wine, where Jesus made the lame to walk.
Dr. Abel Damina: That is not really what is important to humanity. What is important to humanity is the sacrifice. John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life. Now, He gave His Son. He gave His Son not in the womb of Mary, but He gave His Son up to die.
Dr. Abel Damina: It is in that sacrifice of Jesus that we see the wisdom of God. It is in that sacrifice of Jesus that we see the righteousness of God. It is in that sacrifice of Jesus that we see sanctification. It is in that sacrifice of Jesus that we see redemption from God. So, he was referring to the giving of Jesus up to die.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, we are not looking at we are now looking at redemption. The price paid or the reality of our redemption in Christ Jesus. Let's see the realities of redemption in the scriptures tonight. The realities of this redemption. The act of redemption, the very act of redemption is the purchase of a slave by the paying of a price. The purchase of a slave by the paying of a price. You know, the scripture calls it ransom.
Dr. Abel Damina: Jesus came not to be ministered to, but to minister and give Himself a ransom for many. So, Jesus is the ransom. And we have seen that the price was not paid by Jesus. That the price was not paid for Jesus. It was not paid by Jesus, it was not paid for Jesus. The price was Jesus. The price was Jesus. The price was paid as Jesus.
Dr. Abel Damina: We said it was paid, spirit, soul, and body. Everything called Jesus was offered to us. So, Jesus is spirit, soul, and body offered for our redemption. Offered for our redemption. People have asked this question, you know, that did Jesus die for sickness, poverty, and sin? Because I remember back in the days, we were taught that Jesus died for poverty, died for sickness, died for sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, please, I'd like you to pay attention because I'm going to go very intelligently into explaining this concept of what Jesus really died for. And you know, people who do undue exegesis on that because there's a missing link in that statement. There's a missing link in that statement. So, did Jesus die for sin? Yes. Everybody will agree that Jesus died for sin. Romans chapter 5, verse 8. But God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Dr. Abel Damina: For sickness. The reason why people have problem with the sickness part is because they have not received the benefit. They have not received the benefit. So, we use our experiences to look at the scriptures to find out the reality of redemption, whether it got to that point or not. But let's see something. And I pray that your eyes be opened right now to the things I'm about to explain. What did Jesus die for?
Dr. Abel Damina: What did Jesus actually die for? I just came from a TV station with Mr. Bush this night, and they were asking me that I said that prosperity is not part of the gospel. And the lady interviewing me was really strong on, so what do I ask God? What do I can't I ask God for things? And I wish she's listening because this will sort her out. And it's the representation of what is in the mind of many Christians. Because somebody even said to me, okay, Dr. Damina, this death of Jesus, this whole gospel of Jesus, how does it put food on my table?
Dr. Abel Damina: And I said, well, if you came to Jesus for food on your table, you have come to the wrong person. Because Jesus didn't come to put food on your table. He came to save you from sin. You have to know what to do to put food on your table. What about people who don't know Jesus? They have food on their table. People who don't even care about God, they have food on their table. So, you can't reduce the entire work of redemption to mere food on the table.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, and it is because people have not fully understood what I'm about to explain, as to why Jesus died and what are the benefits that accrue to us because of it. Redemption means to pay a price. So, redeemed is the act of paying the price. Redeemed is the act of paying the price. So, in Galatians chapter 3, apart from teaching you to understand, if you observe, in the course of my teachings, I try to ensure that I teach enough for you to be able to understand, so that you too can teach others.
Dr. Abel Damina: So that you too can be able to present the message to other people intelligently. So that you too can be able to defend your position as to why you believe in what you believe intelligently. I know that along the line, you are not just going to do the word, you are also going to be able to preach it. Because that's the whole essence of ministry. To bless you, so that you too can be a blessing to others.
Dr. Abel Damina: Galatians chapter 3, verse 13. Please pay attention. Galatians chapter 3, verse 13. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. Being made a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree. For what did Jesus die? He died for the curse. He is made a curse for us. So, please look at it, for example, here is Christ. Then you have the law, and you have the curse of the law.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, Christ redeems man from the curse of the law. Christ redeems man from the curse of the law. So, Christ takes man from the curse. What curse? The curse of the law. The curse of the law. How did he do that? Christ became the curse of the law. He became the curse of the law. Why? Galatians 3:13. Galatians 3:13.
Dr. Abel Damina: That the blessing. Galatians 3:14 now. 3:14. That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ. That we might receive the promise of the spirit through faith or that we might receive the promised spirit, the promised spirit. Please stay with me. Now, please listen very carefully. So, when we hear that Christ had redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Dr. Abel Damina: People will say, I am not under the curse, or I am not under the law. Why will he redeem you from the curse of the law? Remember, the history of man is that man sinned. The history of man is that man sinned. When man sinned, there was no law to impute sin. Man sinned, that's the history. And when man sinned, there was no law in existence to impute sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, look at Romans chapter 5, verse 13 to establish that. Romans chapter 5, verse 13. For until the law, sin was in the world. But sin is not imputed when there is no law. Sin is not imputed when there is no law. So, even though there was sin, but sin was not imputed. There was no law to impute sin. Now, so let's get intelligent. So, sin is not imputed when there is no law.
Dr. Abel Damina: In fact, let me be honest with all of you, that verse was my turning point. That Romans 5:13 made all the difference for me, where it has to do with sin, righteousness, relationship with God. That particular Romans 5:13. Whenever I read it, I have this feeling, because it it it did a lot to me. It changed everything about my understanding of the scriptures. So, now the question will be, sin is not imputed when there is no law. So, what precedes the other sin or what precedes the law?
Dr. Abel Damina: What precedes the law is sin. So, sin came before the law. Or sin predated the law. Sin predated the law. The question will be, what precedes sin or what follows sin? When sin came, death came by sin. Death came by sin. So, the question is, what comes first, sin or death? Sin. Sin comes before death. All right? So, what comes first? The law or sin?
Dr. Abel Damina: What comes first? The law or sin? Sin. Because the law came after sin. So, now, death came after sin. The law came after sin. So, sin predated the law, and sin predated death. All right? So, please, that's very important. Don't miss those information. Now, so that means, there would have been no law if there was no sin. There would have been no law if there was no sin. So, the law is a product of sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: The law is a product of sin. So, the law being a product of sin, that will mean, therefore, that death is a product of what? Sin. So, the law is a product of sin. Death is a product of sin. So, sin is their mother. So, if there was no sin, there will be no law. And it's not as if a law was given that brought sin. Sin was there before the law. So, it is not the law that brought sin, because sin predated the law.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, now, there was sin and then there was law. Now, go back to Galatians chapter 3, verse 13. Please pay attention. Galatians 3:13. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us. For it is written, cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree. Look at Galatians chapter 3, verse 10. Let's read the pretext. Galatians chapter 3, verse 10. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse.
Dr. Abel Damina: For it is written, cursed is everyone that continued not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Verse 11. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident. For the just shall live by faith. Give me verse 12. Glory to God, verse 12. And the law is not of faith. If your Bible is mine, I will circle that whole sentence. And the law is not of faith.
Dr. Abel Damina: But the man that doeth them shall live in them. The law is not of faith. And the man that doeth them shall live in them. Look at verse 16 of Galatians 3 now. Verse 16. Now, to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not unto seeds as of many, but as of one. And to thy seed, which is Christ. Give me verse 17. To thy seed, which is Christ. And this I say, that the covenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ.
Dr. Abel Damina: The law, which was 430 years after, cannot disannul that it should make the promise of none effect. Give me verse 19. For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise. But God gave it to Abraham by promise. God gave it to Abraham by promise. So, look up. The law is the aftermath of sin. The law is the aftermath of sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: It did not come to prevent sin. The law did not come to prevent sin. Neither it did it come to warn men of sin. The law did not come to prevent sin. Neither did it come to warn men of sin. But it came because of sin. The law came because of sin. Now, look at Galatians chapter 3, verse 22. Please pay attention. Galatians chapter 3, verse 22. But the scripture had concluded all under sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: That the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. 23. But before faith came, we were kept under the law. Shut up unto the faith, which should afterwards be revealed. 24. Wherefore, the law was our schoolmaster unto Christ. The word to bring us is in italics. It's not in the original. So, take it out. Wherefore, the law was our schoolmaster unto Christ. That we might be justified by faith.
Dr. Abel Damina: Take note, that word unto. To bring us unto in verse 24, was in italics. Now, you will think that the law was going to lead us to Christ. But no, it doesn't. The law didn't lead us to Christ. But when you read that scripture, that is the impression you get without proper study. The law couldn't have led us to Christ because the law is not of faith. The law is not of faith. So, since the law is not of faith, it couldn't have led us to Christ.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, that word to bring us to Christ has to be removed. So, wherefore, it should be, the law was our schoolmaster unto Christ. That we might be justified by faith. After that faith is come, we are no longer under the schoolmaster. After that faith is come, the law didn't bring us to faith. Faith came to us, where the law kept us in bondage. The law kept us in bondage. So, faith had to come and look for us under the bondage of the law.
Dr. Abel Damina: Faith looked for us. Now, what was he saying? Did the law lead us to Christ? No. The law did not lead anyone to Christ. Look at what the law was. Galatians 4 chapter 4, verse 1. Galatians chapter 4, verse 1. Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differed nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all. Next verse. Next verse, verse 2. Galatians 4:2. But he is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the Father. Verse 3.
Dr. Abel Damina: Even so we, when we were children, we are in bondage under the elements of the world. Verse 4. But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law. Why? Why did God send Jesus? Next verse. To redeem them that were under the law, which kept us in bondage because the law is not of faith. So, Jesus came to redeem us. Why? That we might receive the adoption of sons.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, anybody under the law cannot be a son. Under the law, you are a servant. But when you receive Jesus, Jesus frees you from the law into sonship. Jesus frees you from the law into sonship. So, it gave us a little analogy here. Take note, the law did not lead us to Christ. The law kept us in bondage. The law was bondage. And it was not God that put man in bondage. It was the law that put man in bondage.
Dr. Abel Damina: Because the law was the aftermath of sin. So, the law kept man in bondage. Since the law was a product of sin. So, that will mean that the law is judgment. That will mean that the coming of the law is the imputation of sin. So, the law is that which imputes sin. The law is that which imputes sin. Please, this is very important. Paul said in Romans chapter 7, verse 7. Please look at it. You will like it.
Dr. Abel Damina: Romans chapter 7, verse 7. What shall we say then? Romans chapter 7, verse 7. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law. For I had not known lust, except the law had said, thou shall not covet. I had not known sin. It was the law that brought the knowledge of sin or the consciousness of sin to me. So, sin is imputed or sin is reckoned by the law.
Dr. Abel Damina: Sin is reckoned by the law. So, what did the law do? Please listen carefully. What did the law do? The law is identification. The law is identification. That is, the law identifies humanity under sin. The law identifies humanity under sin. So that Jesus will die for all. The law identifies the totality of humanity under sin, both Jew and Gentile, so that the death of Jesus will be for all, both Jew and Gentile.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, now that law did not lead us to Christ. The law pronounced judgment on everybody. Because the law was an aftermath of sin. So, the law pronounced judgment upon everybody. It didn't lead us to Christ. Christ came to us because we were under the bondage of the law. All right? So, Christ came. Let's see some scriptures quickly. Remember, before we read, that the law didn't lead us to Christ.
Dr. Abel Damina: The law kept us in bondage until Christ came. Look at Romans 3:19. Romans chapter 3, verse 19. Now, we know that what thing soever the law saith. It saith to them who are under the law. That every mouth may be stopped. And all the world may become guilty before God. That is the mission of the law. The law was just to pronounce judgment on all of humanity. Judgment. So, the law is the verbalization of the state of man.
Dr. Abel Damina: The law is the verbalization of the state of man. The law is what demonstrates the state of man, who had fallen into sin. Look at Romans 3:20. Please pay attention. Romans chapter 3, verse 20. Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in His sight. For by the law, the knowledge of sin. For by the law, the knowledge of sin. So, nobody is trying to do the law. All they were trying to do under the law was judgment.
Dr. Abel Damina: All that the law was saying was that you are a sinner. You are a sinner. You are a sinner. The mission of the law was to establish the judgment of sin and the consciousness of sin. All the world became guilty so that Christ can die for all. All the world became guilty so that Christ can die for all. So, that's why the law in Romans chapter 8, verse 1 and 2. There is therefore now, no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus. Full stop.
Dr. Abel Damina: That statement under is not in the original. Who walk not after the flesh, it's not in the original. So, verse 2. For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has made me free from the law of sin and death. He calls it the law of sin and death. The law of sin and death. So, we know sin. What of death? We have established sin. What about death?
Dr. Abel Damina: It is the law that pronounces sin and pronounces death. The law is to verbalize or to demonstrate man's state. It is not to change the state. The law didn't come to make us better people. The law didn't come to make us better. It only came to pronounce judgment and verbalize our state that we are sinners. The law came to pronounce man a sinner and to declare judgment on man. It didn't come to change our state.
Dr. Abel Damina: That is why verse 3 of Romans 8 now says. Romans 8:3. For what the law could not do. It couldn't change our position. It couldn't change our lifestyle. So, what the law could not do. Why? In that, it was weak through the flesh. God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. So, what couldn't the law do?
Dr. Abel Damina: It couldn't condemn sin. The law couldn't condemn sin. The law couldn't pronounce judgment on sin. Because the law is the aftermath of sin. So, the law couldn't do anything about sin and the condition of sin that man found himself in. So, Jesus died. And the death of Jesus pronounced judgment on sin, which the law did not achieve. The law couldn't pronounce judgment. But the death of Jesus pronounced judgment on sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: Look at verse 4. Look at verse 4. Glory to God, verse 4 of Romans 8. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us. Who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. Walk not, does not refer to conduct, but nature. Nature. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled. The word fulfilled there is not English word, is Bible word.
Dr. Abel Damina: Fulfilled means to establish something. To bring it to a conclusion. To bring it to a conclusion. Or to meet the demands of something. To meet the demands of something. That is the righteous requirements of the law were met by the death of Jesus. The righteous requirements of the law that pronounce man a sinner. The right the the requirements of the law that pronounce man guilty. The requirements of the law that require that declared man a victim.
Dr. Abel Damina: The death of Christ pronounce judgment on sin, which the law could not achieve. That is, what the law required was done by Jesus. That is, the law itself failed. So, Jesus pronounced judgment on sin. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh. God sending His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh. Please pay attention. Listen carefully. You know, we can say that we are not under the law by virtue of of race.
Dr. Abel Damina: By virtue of race. You didn't hear that. We can say, we are not under the law by virtue of race. What do I mean? Hebrews chapter 8, verse 7. Pay attention. Hebrews chapter 8, verse number 7. For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second. Next verse. For finding fault with them, he saith, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. Next verse.
Dr. Abel Damina: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers. That I made with their fathers. So, this covenant was made with their fathers, the Jews. That I made with their fathers, when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt. Because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. So, the law was given to Jewish people. It was not given to Gentiles. So, we can say that we are not under the law by virtue of race. All right? Because it was given to the Jews.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, people mistake this for the promise. There is a difference between the law and the promise. The promise is not the law. The law is not the promise. Please, that's important. There's a difference between the law and the promise. Now, but this was the law. The promise preceded the law. The promise preceded the law. Or rather, the promise predated. The promise was given long before the law came.
Dr. Abel Damina: The promise was given to Abraham. That promise given to Abraham, before Moses, before the law. That promise is the New Testament. That promise is the New Testament. And that promise given to Abraham was fulfilled by Jesus. So, between the promise and the fulfillment was the interruption of the law given to the Jews. Between the promise and the fulfillment. I remember Abraham was not a Jew. Abraham was not a Jew. Why? Because there was no Jewish nation until Jacob, who is the grandchild of Abraham, was born.
Dr. Abel Damina: It was from Jacob the 12 tribes came. That's where Israel started. When Jacob's name was changed from Jacob to Israel. So, before Jacob, there was no Israel. So, Abraham was not a Jew. And God gave the promise to Abraham. But the law was given to Israel. The law was given to Israel, not to Abraham. To Israel. Now, that law is for Jews. That promise was given to all nations. So, between the promise given and the new covenant and the fulfillment by Jesus, was the interruption of the old covenant.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, look, look at this. The old covenant, therefore, is what we call the law of Moses. The old covenant is what we call the law of Moses. So, look at this. The promise to Abraham, New Testament. The promise fulfilled by Jesus, New Testament. Between the promise to Abraham and the promise to Jesus, came the law, which is the old covenant. That is why the law is man's covenant. The law is not God's covenant. The law is man's covenant. Please stay with me.
Dr. Abel Damina: That is, the old covenant came after the promise. And the job of the old covenant was to find fault with them. The law was to find fault. That's why he say finding fault, he said, behold, I will make a new covenant. Because the law failed. The law could not pronounce judgment on sin. The law could not free man from the consciousness of sin. So, the purpose for the law was not achieved. So, Jesus came, took the law out of the way by meeting the demands and judged sin and condemned sin and freed man from the yoke of sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, that's the story of redemption. That's the good news of the gospel. So, there was the promise. And there was the law given after the promise was made. That is why it is called, the law was added. The law was added. Why? Because of transgressions. It was added because of transgressions. For how long? Till the seed should come, to whom the promise was made. Who is the seed that was to come? Galatians 3:16. Pay attention. Galatians 3:16. Now, to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not unto seeds as of many, but as of one, and to thy seed, which is Christ.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, the law was given till Christ will come. So, the law kept man in bondage, because the law woke man up to his state until Christ came. The coming of Christ brought judgment on the law. And when the law and sin were judged, man was freed. So, the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death. Jesus is the judgment of sin. Jesus is the judgment of sin. Look at Romans 10:4. You will love this. Glory to God.
Dr. Abel Damina: Romans chapter 10, verse 4. Romans 10:4. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness. To everyone that believes. Faith in Christ frees you from sin, from the law, and from the consciousness of sin. Christ is the end. He put a death nail on the law and whatever follows the law. So, why was the law given? We read it. To pronounce all men guilty. The law was given to expose man's state. Look at Ephesians chapter 2, verse 12. You will love this.
Dr. Abel Damina: Ephesians chapter 2, verse 12. That at that time, ye, ye were without Christ. Talking to us Gentiles. You were aliens from the commonwealth of Israel. And you were strangers from the covenants of promise. Having no hope, and without God in the world. Look at verse 15. Glory to God. Ephesians 2:15. Having abolished in his flesh the enmity. Even the law of commandments contained in ordinances. For to make in himself of twain, one new man, Jew and Gentile. Twen, Jew, Gentile. One new man, so making peace.
Dr. Abel Damina: There are two things we read in verse 12 and 15 that are not the same. Verse 12 is different from verse 15. Verse 15 is different from verse 12. Verse 12 is talking about the promise to Abraham. Verse 15 is talking about the law to the Jews. 12 promise. 15 commandments, ordinances. The law of commandments. So, there was no commandment in the promise. There was no commandment in the promise. Because the promise is a Evangela. Evangela means a self-fulfilling promise. That is, God made a promise that only he will fulfill.
Dr. Abel Damina: And man is only to benefit from what God has promised, which God will fulfill. But the law commanded people to do. The law commanded people to do. The Gentiles were exempted on the basis of circumcision. The Gentiles were not allowed to be part of the law of Moses, because we were not circumcised. So, the law condemned us from being part of keeping the law, since we were not circumcised. Because the Jew is one who is circumcised outwardly. And the Gentile has no such commitment or covenant. So, that that commitment of the law condemned us.
Dr. Abel Damina: But there was no circumcision or uncircumcision when the promise was made to Abraham. Because the promise will cover the circumcised and the uncircumcised. So, the promise was given long before the law. Paul explained to see that the law is to identify man's state. So, when the Bible says, Jesus redeemed us from the curse of the law. What is the curse of the law? What is the curse of the law? He didn't say curses. Curse. So, what will be the curse of the law? Sin. Sin is the curse of the law. He said curse. So, the law came because of sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, the law is an identification tag. Which says, look, you are sinners. Look, you are sinners. So, if Jesus fulfilled the law, and he died to redeem us from the law. He died therefore to redeem us from the law as a vicarious responsibility. Lawyers will understand what I just said. As a vicarious responsibility. Because the real issue is sin. The law was a product of sin. Spiritual death was also a product of sin. Both the law, spiritual death, all of them were products or aftermath of sin. So, when we said that Jesus died for sin, and he paid full price.
Dr. Abel Damina: Then we begin to explain that death. What imputed sin? Was the law. So, sin brought about the law. Sin brought about spiritual death. So, by Jesus' death, we are redeemed from spiritual death, and we are redeemed from the law. Two things. Which came by sin. Death and the law. So, we are still saying the same thing because the law did not just appear. Neither did spiritual death just appear. Both the law and death came from sin. So, that's why the law is the law of sin and death.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, Jesus dying as a requirement as a requirement of the law. Was Jesus dying as a requirement of the law? No. It's not the law. Man didn't break the law. What man did in Genesis was sin. Genesis 3. The day you eat of it, you shall surely die. So, man committed sin. Jesus died for sin. But the law is a consequence of sin. Spiritual death is a consequence of sin. So, both the law and spiritual death, they are consequences of sin. So, Jesus became the cause of the law. What is the cause of the law? Sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: Jesus became sin. Sin is the cause of the law. Not causes. Jesus became sin for us. That's the reason why men suffered under the law because of sin. So, Jesus became the cause of the law. Now, it is just vicarious. You know, vicarious. Let me explain what vicarious is. If I buy a car and I give my driver. And my driver had an accident. Now, I'm dealing with vicarious basically because in the law, there are other arguments, but the basic vicarious responsibility. If I bought a car and I gave my driver the car. My driver drove and had an accident. In law, if I didn't buy the car, my driver will not drive. If my driver did not drive, there will be no accident. So, by vicarious responsibility, I am the one responsible for the accident. Because I bought the car that the driver drove to have the accident.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, what we are simply saying here is, basically, whatever that driver did, I am responsible. So, sin is responsible for the law, and sin is responsible for death. So, by vicarious responsibility, both the law and death are because of sin. So, if Jesus took the cause of the law. What will be the cause of the law? Sin. Because sin is the reason for the law, and sin is the reason for death. We can't separate it. We can't separate it. So, it's all because of sin.
Dr. Abel Damina: There will be no law if there was no sin. There will be no death if there was no sin. So, if I take care of sin, if I take care of sin, I have taken care of spiritual death, and I have taken care of the law. If I take care of sin, I have taken care of spiritual death, and I have taken care of the law. That's why Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. If you observe, what he's dealing with here, is not a different price. Is the same. Both price for sin and the law is what Christ did.
Dr. Abel Damina: But if you look at the scriptures, we will look at what happened to sin very intelligently. So, Paul began to explain, where did the law come from? It is traced to sin. So, Jesus died for sin. Which by implication means, he died for the law. If he died for sin, it means he died for spiritual death. That is why it's a vicarious responsibility or vicarious liability. So, Jesus became sin. Meaning, Jesus also became the law. He became a cause for us. So, you know, he also became sickness. He became sickness, because it's a matter of looking at it intelligently. He became sickness. Sickness came because of sin. Until there was sin, there will have been no sickness. Sin refers to the nature. Or sin refers to the act that is involved. That's why he did not become sins. He became sin. S I N.
Dr. Abel Damina: Shall we continue in sin, S I N? S I N. Not shall we continue to sin? It's not an act. Shall we continue in the nature? Sin, S I N. We are dead to sin. How shall we that are dead to sin, not sins, S I N. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein. Dead to sin. If you read the book of Romans, 80% of the word sin used there refers to the nature, not the actions. The nature, the wages of sin, S I N. Is death. Wherefore, as by one man, sin, S I N. Romans 5:12. The state of sin. So, there was one sacrifice. And that sacrifice was Jesus. He was made our redemption. Sickness was both by sin, not by sins. It is the nature that sin produced in man, that made man a victim of sickness and death. Made man a victim of sickness and death.
Dr. Abel Damina: Now, sickness was brought by sin, not sins. Romans 3:21. Look at this. Romans 3:21. But now, the righteousness of God without the law. Glory to God. Without the law. Righteousness devoid of the law is manifested. Being witnessed by the law and the prophet. So, the prophets are standing here with their yard stick of righteousness, which no man could qualify for, including the prophets. Then the law of Moses is standing here with his own yard stick of righteousness, which even the law giver could not keep. So, righteousness came from behind. Ignoring the prophet, bypassing the law and said to man. Whether you observe the law or the prophet or not. Come to me and be righteous. So, faith in Christ makes you righteous. Independent of the law and the prophets. Independent of the law and the prophets.
Dr. Abel Damina: That is a slap on religious spirits. Independent of the law and the prophet. Faith in Christ alone makes you righteous. Whether you keep the law or not, because you can't keep it. So, Jesus kept it on your behalf. When you receive Christ, automatically you have kept the law. Now, please, as I round up. The law is identification. It identifies with what had happened. One sacrifice. One sacrifice. Jesus came, taught, preached the kingdom of God, and he ensured that everywhere he preached, he healed. He went about doing good, healing all, because part of what he came for, which was by vicarious responsibility, as part of the children of sin, was sickness. So, he went about healing the sick, raising the dead, that it might be fulfilled that which was written by the prophet Isaiah. What did Isaiah say? Isaiah said, he will take our place.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, Jesus healed the sick as a pointer that ultimately, he will die to free man, who has become a victim of sin. How God anointed. Acts 10:38. How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth, with the Holy Ghost and with power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. So, sickness is an oppression of the devil. But Jesus, having spoiled principalities and powers, he made it show of the devil. He made it show. He he made a show of the spoil of what he got after spoiling principalities and powers. For this purpose, the Son of God is manifested that he may destroy the works of the devil. He destroyed sin. He destroyed the law. He destroyed sin consciousness. And he destroyed sickness. And today, he heals. He sets men free from the yoke of sin and from the bondage of sin. And today, we can boldly say, the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death. I am free. You can't be in the two. You have you have to be in one. If you are in the law of sin and death, you are not in the law of the spirit of life. If you are in the law of the spirit of life, you are not in the law of sin and death. You can't be in the two. And the day you receive Christ, you were free. You were free from the law of sin and death. And you are not temporarily free. You are permanently free. Therefore, stand fast in the liberty, wherewith Christ has set us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. The legal and the vital work of redemption. Friends, this so great redemption and salvation was not was not was not with kid's gloves. It took God everything that God had to get it for us. And he got it for us, not dependent on our contribution. Our contribution will mess it up.
Dr. Abel Damina: So, he did the complete work by himself. And he made us beneficiaries. So, brother Paul will say this. Being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun this good work of salvation in you, he will be faithful to finish it. He is the beginner. He is the finisher. He is the author. He is the completer of salvation. That's why Jonah will say, salvation is of the Lord. 100%, salvation is from Jesus to Jesus. Jesus to Jesus. The only part man plays is to believe and receive all that Jesus has provided. God on your feet, that's all I've got for you tonight. Glory to God.
