John MacArthur: This is John MacArthur. Join me for today's Portraits of Grace. Did you know that one of the most significant scientific breakthroughs of the past half-century was the discovery of the DNA molecule?

Perhaps its most well-known practical application is fingerprinting—that is, the technique where genetic information from one DNA sample is compared with another to help identify a person. While that is certainly important, it can't compare to how God determines a person's spiritual identity.

The Apostle Paul said, "You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you." That means if you're a genuine believer, the Holy Spirit indwells in you; He is your spiritual fingerprint.

What a privilege. So, thank God daily for the Holy Spirit as you remember that He's the one who enables you to stand as a portrait of God's grace.
