Confidence in the Spirit
John MacArthur: This is John MacArthur with more Portraits of Grace. Jealousy is a treacherous sin that cries out, "I want what you have and furthermore, I don't want you to have it." It's ugly, isn't it? It replaces contentment with resentment and produces an endless number of sins.
The apostle Paul knew what it was like to be victimized by jealous people. There were people who criticized the apostle Paul—other preachers who criticized him. And yet he said of those other preachers, "They're proclaiming Christ and in this I rejoice and I will rejoice."
Personal comfort, selfish ambition didn't motivate Paul. He loved Christ deeply, and as long as Christ was being proclaimed, he was happy even if the preachers spoke against him. What a perspective. I hope you have that. This is John MacArthur praying that you're continuing to be portraits of grace.
