When Loyalties Collide

September 28, 2008
Sooner or later, the government will tell us to do something we cannot do as Christians. Or, they'll prohibit us from doing things we must do as believers. While we have a clear obligation to both church and state, how do we handle the conflicts that inevitably arise? Today: some light for the dark days that may be ahead.

Just as no two snowflakes are alike, no two people are alike. We are all different, and that diversity adds a richness to life. But it also adds a set of problems. When two people don't get along, even two Christians, what do you do? Today: a solution for those difficult people in your life, and mine.

From the outside looking in, the Christian church is hardy monolithic. Besides Catholic and Orthodox churches, and many cults, there are more denominations of Protestants emerging every day, leading one to wonder who has the most correct doctrine. Today, Dr. Erwin Lutzer continues his series on Christians in Conflict, and how we can discern truth from error, and make wise choices on where to worship.

When Christians stand for truth in a pluralistic culture, conflict is inevitable. Increasingly, that conflict is with our own government. Today, Dr. Erwin Lutzer begins a series on Christians in Conflict, and how we can live in view of those conflicts. Later in our broadcast, Pastor Erwin Lutzer will speak on what happens "When Religions Collide."

For too many Christians, prayer is what you do before you eat, and not much more. As a result, we are spiritually weak, lacking the resources to face life's trials. And we miss finding out the will of God for our churches, and our personal lives. Today we hear a message targeted to those of us who do not pray as we should. Stay with us for Dr. Lutzer's message on "A Praying Church."

We're all conditioned to expect instant gratification. We take a pill and expect the pain to go away. When hungry, we buy fast food. Waiting for any reason seems unreasonable...after all, there's too much to do to be stuck not doing anything. Many would find the words of King David in Psalm 37 out of sync: "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently before Him." Today: lessons from a great king on remembering who's really in charge of our lives.

No psychiatrist's couch can set us free from the inner turmoil of sin. When we violate God's commands, the only thing that can relieve the distress is the knowledge that we've been forgiven. Having sinned greatly, King David knew this very well. He wrote of his personal experience of forgiveness in Psalm 32, and today we'll walk with him down the path toward renewed fellowship with God.

Some people see God as distant and uninvolved. But one Psalm portrays God's care for His people as that of a shepherd for his sheep. King David wrote the beloved Psalm 23 to capture this care with a word-picture that has never been equaled. Later in our broadcast, Pastor Lutzer will take us to Psalm 23. His topic: "When the Shepherd Takes Our Hand."

Some say God created the world like a clock: He wound it up and is now letting it run down. But the Bible tells us otherwise. God is not indifferent to what's happening on planet earth...in the scriptures we see how engaged He really is. In fact, history is moving toward an inevitable conclusion: the return of Jesus to this earth.

Worship is not just an hour on Sunday morning. As we'll learn today, worship, for the Christian, needs to become a way of life. And we'll find that a life of worship involves a cost, because without that cost, our worship is not genuine. Today we conclude a series on worship, as Erwin Lutzer brings Part Two of "How to Adore God."

It was an unlikely place for a teaching on worship: a well along a dusty road. But here, Jesus taught a despised woman how to worship God. And today, He'll teach us. Today we begin a series on worship, as Pastor Erwin Lutzer brings Part One of "How to Adore God."
