When Christians stand for truth in a pluralistic culture, conflict is inevitable. Increasingly, that conflict is with our own government. Today, Dr. Erwin Lutzer begins a series on Christians in Conflict and how we can live in view of those conflicts.

The U.S. Supreme Court chambers are adorned with a large display of the Ten Commandments. Recent decisions denigrate heterosexual marriage and enshrine homosexual unions, thus furthering the decline of a court and culture based on biblical standards. Indeed, the long road to American ruin is not only here today; we are nearing its end.

The internet brings pornography to anyone who wants it. This inflames desires and leads to sexual addiction, which is a good reason Scripture warns us to guard our hearts. Pastor Lutzer probes the mind of an addict, and explains the steps we should take to be free of this addiction fueled by easy accessibility.

There is no doubt that Christians are torn regarding modern technology. Either we abandon a technology we seemingly cannot live without and become isolated from culture, or we risk exposure to violence and sexual images while trying to engage the world in which we live.

Like everyone else, Christians are drowning in a sea of moral impurity. Social media is replacing face-to-face communication. Our addiction to technology and the rapid breakdown in morality go hand in hand.

It has been said that America will fall, not by the guns of its enemies, but by the moral rot of its citizens. One reason for this is media. The more “online” we become, the more exposed we are to addictive moral perversity. The danger is very real, and the evidence is everywhere.

It’s been said that there are no atheists in foxholes. Being in mortal danger focuses the mind. Brave men and women in the line of fire know that only by the grace of God will they survive. Sometimes Christians pray without a sense of great need.  In the New Testament, we’re taught to combine prayer and fasting when the subject of our prayers is serious. As the New Year beckons, we’re on the precipice of great need, both in our churches and in our country.

When a new member of the British royal family is born, the TV channels cover it wall to wall. Even we Americans were glued to our sets to catch that first glimpse of the future king of England. When the King of kings was born, no cable news crews were waiting with bated breath. But there were those who would never be the same after angels lit up the Bethlehem sky.
