Many people watch the stock market like hawks. We all need money, but one day the money we crave will be no more. One day, all things that give us false security will vanish. On the day of final judgment, our relationship with God will be all that matters.

Sometimes we go directly from great blessing to times of great trial. That’s what happened to Jesus. He was led by God into the wilderness and found Himself tempted to sin by the devil. Hungry and thirsty, He was very vulnerable, but He stood firm against Satan by using the Word of God. Let’s learn important lessons from forty days in the life of Jesus.

It’s been said that if all the tears people ever cried could be gathered up, they’d fill an ocean. Life does have its joys, but God also brings tears, because through tears we learn to depend on Him for every breath, every bite, and every dollar. Let’s look at a story of famine and crisis, and how God met a woman’s needs.

When God wants to deepen our spiritual maturity, He sometimes takes away all the comforts we’ve become used to. Some of us move out of state, where a new job falls apart. Some of us are told that we have only months or weeks to live. It’s possible for God to lead His people into the wilderness for their greater good and His greater glory. That’s what happened to Abraham.

The days ahead may well be days of more uncertainty and financial instability. For many, the comforts we’ve known may fade away into a tougher reality: no job, no insurance, perhaps a foreclosed home. How do we handle deprivation when all we’ve known is abundance?

If the Lord brought a revival of repentance to a city, most of God’s people would rejoice. But not Jonah. He felt double-crossed. God withheld the judgment Jonah had prophesied against Nineveh. God was teaching a lesson to a man who still rebelled even after surviving a fish’s belly.

Some believers will only obey God after He teaches them a lesson the hard way. Jonah finally went to Nineveh, a little worse for wear, after three days inside a fish. Even then, the prophet of God was not happy that wicked Ninevites might repent. He had no real concern for the people of a great pagan city.

Sometimes, circumstances overwhelm us, forcing us to turn to God for a way out. Jonah was certainly overwhelmed in the belly of a great fish. That experience truly marked his death to self-reliance. He realized that salvation is from the Lord.

Ask a farmer and he’ll tell you that mules can be stubborn. But none of God’s creation is as stubborn as mankind. Amazingly, even redeemed men and women try to resist His will. In this message we meet a prophet of God who was as stubborn as a mule.

Farmers know it’s really pretty simple: no seeds, no plants. No plants, no harvest. God set the laws of sowing and reaping in motion a long time ago. But these laws that govern agriculture also apply to financial giving. In this message we explore what Paul taught about generosity in his writings to the church at Corinth.

Wise money managers know the term ROI: return on investment—the bottom line when putting resources at risk. Christians have bank accounts on earth, but also accounts in heaven. They lay up treasures “where moth and rust do not corrupt.” In this message we’ll learn why investments in things eternal bear a return we cannot even imagine.
