When the cup of iniquity is full, God will pour out His wrath. In the Old Testament, foreign armies invaded and looted Jerusalem, taking the people into captivity. The United States may soon feel that same wrath if we don’t learn the lessons from a nation long ago.

Many people think they are masters of their own destiny. But God sees His people as clay on a potter’s wheel, and since He’s the potter, He is in control of their destiny. We must learn to see ourselves as vessels God can make and remake as He chooses.

In ancient Israel, false prophets put lies about God into the minds of the people. The same is true in our day. These false teachers minimize God’s holiness, and exaggerate their own goodness to hide their real motives. We must learn to recognize the lies.

God allowed Babylon to take Israel captive after the people turned to idolatry. God won’t tolerate endless disobedience from His people—He didn’t then, and He won’t today. God judges a people who call darkness light, and light darkness.

It’s easy to for believers to let the world press us into its mold, to conform us to what our culture expects. But God has a higher calling for His own: they are to enjoy the fruits of holy living. God said: “Be holy, for I am holy.” Some people think holiness is joylessness. In fact, the opposite is true: we find our joy in being set apart for God.

When you read the headlines, the future looks pretty grim: financial upheaval, wars, terrorism, corruption, and natural disasters. But believers in the race of life know the goal line is not affected by this present darkness. Peter wrote that we’re born again to a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
