Is God on America's Side? Part 2

July 5, 2009
Another Independence Day marks America's birthday. While some hail increased government activism, others fear that our democratic underpinnings are crumbling away into a new era of tyranny. They see hard-won freedoms melting away, as a war is being lost without a shot being fired. Many are now asking: "Is God on America's Side?"

As America's Independence Day approaches, some wonder if the land of the free and the home of the brave is losing its grip on its foundations. Increasingly, our population is politically polarized, moral standards have hit new lows, and economic uncertainty is everywhere. The question could well be asked: "Is God on America's Side?"

These days, people are very eager to believe in change. Well, in the end times, change will come in a person the Bible calls the Antichrist, a leader of fearsome power who will embody the opposite of everything Jesus is. In the latter times, some will depart from the faith and adopt the doctrines of demons. As these days approach, what are we to do?

The New Testament teaches that, in the end times, truth will give way to a lie...not just any lie, but The Lie. That lie is called the New Spirituality, and it's found adherents among powerful people in our media. Oprah Winfrey openly espouses this teaching, along with millions of devoted followers.

When the government's rules conflict with God's rules, is it ever OK to disobey the government? On today's broadcast, you'll find the answer to be a most definite "yes." We'll meet a woman who placed allegiance to God's call far above obedience to a state that wanted to destroy her people. On this Mother's Day, get to know a woman of character, and of destiny.

When a potter throws clay on his wheel, that clay has no choice about what it's going to become. Its job: to sit there and be shaped. Seeing ourselves as clay helps us avoid the "I'm in charge" attitude we all too often have. As the Potter, God's in charge. He has a purpose we cannot see, a purpose that will take us through the fire so that, one day, we'll come out as gold.

When Jesus appeared among the people of Israel, God had a face people could safely see. In the Old Testament, no man could look upon God and live. But now, those who looked into the eyes of Jesus saw the one who said, "He who has seen me has seen the Father." Today, we conclude a brief series on coming face to face with God. Stay with us.
