Perhaps there is no more poignant picture of Christ than when He took the basin and the towel to wash His disciples’ feet. He wanted them to know that the way to greatness was through the pathway of service.

Life in the body of Christ brings with it a wonderful element of fellowship, both with God and with other believers. And the basis for that fellowship is spoken of by the Apostle John as “walking in the light.”

It was Jesus who proclaimed, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” The church is God’s primary means of working in the world, and each Christian should have a vital relationship with a local body of believers.

Worship is not just an hour on Sunday morning.  As we will learn today, worship needs to become a way of life. We will find that a life of worship involves a cost, because without that cost, our worship is not genuine.

Someone once said, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” When it comes to reconciliation, people will stay divided until one person takes a step, the step Jesus spoke of when He said, “Go to your brother.” And we must go if the cycle of mistrust is to be broken.

It is almost fashionable to sue someone these days. Court dockets are full as people demanding payback for injustice. Sadly, too many of these cases involve Christians. The Apostle Paul has some pointed words for those who would like to haul a fellow believer into court.

“Someone’s out to get me.” That’s what David must have thought as King Saul tried to kill him for ten long years. Many people are under constant attack by those who want to do them harm. What drives these “spear throwers?” And how do we as believers handle long- running attacks from others? What do we do when reconciliation is not possible?
