2 Corinthians 2:14-16

The Bible admits the possibility of defeat for the child of God, but never the necessity of it. God’s plan for us is perpetual victory. We are on the winning side; we must learn to appropriate what Jesus has already done for us and breathe in the sweet smell of victory.

2 Corinthians 2:14 says, Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.”

Jesus Christ is the author of this victory.

Before we were saved, we were dead in our sins, in need of a miraculous resurrection. Jesus delivered us from death and destroyed its power. He also delivered us from debt, forgiving us of our trespasses. Through His blood, Jesus paid the penalty in full, took the handwriting of ordinances against us and nailed it to the cross. Jesus subdued the devil, spoiled his power over us, and delivered us from the father of the night.

This victory occurs always and in every place.

Adrian Rogers says, “There is no time that the child of God is not to be victorious.”

Wherever we are, in any circumstance, family, job, health, or finance, we are triumphant in every place. Because of the hope we have in Jesus Christ, difficulty, trial, heartache, and tears make our victory even clearer and stronger.

This victory has a distinct aroma.

“For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).

When we praise God and stand in victory, no matter the trials we face, our lives become a sweet perfume. Our testimony becomes a burning incense, a savor of life unto life.

Adrian Rogers says, “Not only are we witnesses for Jesus, but we’re also part of the evidence.”

Satan has been defeated; he sails a sinking ship and rules a doomed domain. Breathe it in: Jesus has won, and we must never forget it.
