To Live is Christ, to Die is Gain Part 1

January 18, 2021

Could you possibly offer your principle for life in six words? Paul the Apostle did in his letter to the Philippians. He said, “For me to live is Christ!” Pastor James Kaddis will discuss this and more as he studies Philippians chapter one.  Let’s be encouraged to adopt the mindset of to live is Christ and to die is gain, as we listen in to this our Monday edition of Light on the Hill!

We’ll be in Philippians chapter one, which you could say is teaching us how to have the mind of Christ.  In other words, to think like Jesus.  The apostle Paul is a great example on how to do this, even while in a prison cell unjustly!  It would lead to amazing confidence in Jesus.   Let’s see how we can share that same mindset, as we join pastor James.

We’re to let our light shine in a dark world.  And today we’ll be encouraged to stay focused on our heavenly calling, and that involves having the mind of Christ.  The apostle Paul sure did. Pastor James Kaddis will help us arrive at God’s plan and purpose for our lives, even when everything around us is chaotic and things look bleak.

As you’re driving around town, on occasion you’ll see a construction crew working, and signs up that communicate to us that work is in progress.  We know when we see that to slow down, be extra attentive, and in the back of our mind we may wonder what it’s going to be like when the work is complete!  Now as you look at your life, you might imagine a sign hanging over you saying, “Work in progress.” That’s because God isn’t finished with us, until we see Him face to face.  Knowing that, can have a radical impact on your mindset as we'll learn today.

Today we’re going to cover the first two verses in the epistle of Philippians, which contain a common greeting of that time.  But it’s so much more than just a greeting.  As you’ll learn in a moment, it communicates something very powerful about God’s favor and peace being already upon us as Believers.

Pastor James Kaddis is beginning a new study of Philippians.  We’ve selected this book to study for such a time as this, as we believe it contains just what we need to hear at this very hour!  Is joy missing in your life?  This epistle points the way to the joy-filled life, no matter what’s going on around us.  Yes even in a Pandemic, in a deeply divided country, and with corruption at the highest levels in our government… we can still experience joy!

Though we all like it when times are good we recognize life isn’t always that way, especially last year. So, discovering how to have joy despite unhappy circumstances makes all the difference. We’ll do just that beginning today on Light on the Hill as pastor James Kaddis begins Philippians. This letter reveals how to have joy and what gets in the way of experiencing true joy. Today James will offer some background and then survey the entire book, laying an important foundation for what’s ahead of us.

We’re going to complete our look at the book of Daniel here on Light on the Hill.  It’s remarkable to consider that these words spoken by Daniel so very long ago are being fulfilled right before our eyes.  For instance, Daniel told us that knowledge would be increasing and people would be running around looking for the truth, in the last days.  As you'll learn, that’s happening right now.

We’re nearing the finish line in our study of Daniel, here on Light on the Hill!  It’s exciting to think that the next event on the prophetic calendar is the rapture of the church and it could happen at any time.  We should want to be found faithful, ready and living in a God-pleasing way.  And today’s study will help us in that regard.  Pastor James Kaddis will offer a brief tour of end times events as described for us in Daniel twelve.

If you’re like a lot of believers you have questions in mind about the end times.  Perhaps you wonder what is revealed in Scripture about the final antichrist?  What will occur during the Great Tribulation?  The book of Daniel answers some of this for us, and that’s where we’re headed today on Light on the Hill!

James Kaddis is currently taking us through the Old Testament book of Daniel. We’re nearing the end of this remarkable prophecy.  We come back to chapter eleven today which speaks of the coming world ruler known as the final antichrist, and an unprecedented and unrivaled time of trouble.
