Light on the Hill

James Kaddis

Giving Part 1

July 15, 2020

Here on Light on the Hill we’re going to enter into the subject of giving.  How much should we give, is just one among many questions pastor James Kaddis will seek to answer biblically.  And he’ll underscore along the way, we simply can’t out-give the Lord.  All of this is part of our series, “In Spirit and In Truth.”

People today are devoted to all sorts of things… from sports, to entertainment, their job and even family.  But today on Light on the Hill we’d like to encourage you to be devoted to the Lord.

Would you like to become an effective prayer warrior?  If so, join us today for Light on the Hill with pastor James Kaddis.  To learn how to be effective in prayer, it would be a good idea to study the life of Daniel.  He was certainly a prayer warrior, and had an effective prayer life.  And you can too if you’ll implement these truths from Daniel chapter nine.

Those of you who are Mechanics or Construction workers, I’m sure you have more tools than you can count in your toolbox!   But I think you’d be the first to admit, you need to know how to properly use those tools to get the job done correctly.  And so it is with the very important tool of prayer, that God has given us as Christians.  Today on Light on the Hill we’ll learn how to use it effectively, and it starts with going to the Word of God for direction.

If you’re a regular listener, you know we’re all about the teaching of the Word and for good reason.  We’ll discover what it can do for us through our time together in the Word today.  Hebrews 4:12 describes the Bible in practical terms, and lays out some of its characteristics. By the end of our time together I think your appreciation for the Word will be taken to new heights.

We open and study the Word of God each day here on Light on the Hill.  But how do you really know the Word can be trusted, and that it’s reliable?  Maybe you’ve had a well-meaning friend question it’s reliability, or you have yourself?  Join us as we look into some of the characteristics of the Bible.  One of them being, it’s totally reliable, and we have prophecy to prove it!

It’s a tradition many of us hold to, giving gifts to our loved ones on their birthday, at their wedding or Christmas.  I think you’d agree it’s kind of a bummer when we later find out the gift we gave was never used as we had hoped it would be.  Today on Light on the Hill pastor James Kaddis will open First Corinthians thirteen and encourages us to use God’s gifts as He wants us to.

Pastor James Kaddis is about to continue a series we’ve called, “In Spirit and in Truth.”  And here in part six we’re exploring the Word and Mind of the Holy Spirit in Our Lives.  Last time you may recall, pastor James was talking about the gifts God gives to His children, in order for us to be able to fulfill His calling on our lives.  Now today we’re going to see how we’re to put these gifts to use… with love!

Today we’ll be discussing the mindset we’re to have as we exercise the gifts of the Spirit.  We learned last time that we all have an important part to play in the body of Christ.  We might not be up on a stage teaching the Word or leading worship, but maybe our calling is more behind the scenes.  Whatever it may be, pastor James encourages us to seek the best gift for the call that you have from God.

First Corinthians twelve is one of the places in Scripture that describes the spiritual gifts.  But we’re going to take a different approach to the subject today, and talk about the mindset behind the gifts of the Spirit.
