Angry at God? Part 1

May 6, 2022

Benjamin Franklin once said “Anger is never without a reason, but seldom with a good one."  If we need proof that those words are true, we need look no further than what we’ll see from Jonah today. He’s ticked, and we’ll soon see he lost out on an opportunity to experience all that God had for him.   Turn to Jonah chapter four for today’s program and let’s learn from this very angry Prophet.

Today we continue our study of the Old Testament book of Jonah with pastor James Kaddis on Light on the Hill. We’ve reached chapter three.  When we left you last time the city of Nineveh was going through quite a revival, in which the people repented from their wicked behavior, and turned to God.   Wouldn’t you like to see the same happen in our land?

Today on Light on the Hill pastor James Kaddis will examine what is perhaps the greatest miracle recorded for us in the Book of Jonah. And it’s not Jonah in the belly of a great fish! It’s demonstrated clearly and unequivocally in God‘s Work in the City of Nineveh.  What you'll hear is one of the greatest spiritual awakenings in human history!

Many of us have enjoyed a good devotional, and as Christians we usually have a fairly serene setting for our devotional time....and at a quiet time of day.  Jonah is going to have devotions today - but in a very different setting… the belly of a giant fish.  That doesn’t sound like the ideal setting for a quiet time with the Lord, does it... but it was in this particular case!  See what brought this wayward prophet back to the Lord as you join us.

Those of you that attended Sunday School certainly remember the story of Jonah and the big fish. It’s one of the best known stories from the Bible. Unfortunately, the true meaning and relevant lessons from Jonah’s experience often get lost in the incredible adventure Jonah found himself in. This is much more than a man being swallowed by a big fish and then living to tell about it.  Pastor James Kaddis takes us into Jonah chapter two today, where Jonah is having a time of prayer in a most unusual place.

It’s been well said that it’s not wrong to have things as long as they don’t have you. That’s becoming more and more of a challenge isn’t it?  The world calls out to us with its amusements and attractions.  And it is powerful - so we must be on our guard.  It’s our tendency to fall for the unceasing advertising campaign of the world and before long we’re loaded down with its trinkets.  Wouldn’t you like to know how to not get taken in by it?  Today on Light on the Hill pastor James Kaddis visits Revelation chapter eighteen which describes the destruction of commercial Babylon.

Now if we need any proof that open rebellion towards the Lord is a bad idea, what happens to Jonah is a perfect example.   Our study today is taken from pastor James Kaddis’ series in Jonah. Is the Lord’s arm long enough to reach out and bring a disobedient Jonah back into obedience? The answer to that question is forthcoming over the next several days, so we invite you to make Light on the Hill a part of your daily routine!

Today we join pastor James Kaddis in Jonah chapter one, and we’ll learn about Jonah’s great mistake.  And I should add, it’s not as obvious as you might think.  One thing is certain, we can gain tremendous insight and wisdom through methodically considering the errors made in this powerful story.

Yesterday we began a new study based on the book of Jonah and we’ll continue our introduction today with a survey of the entire book.   Jonah is more than just the story of a man who was swallowed by a big fish and lived to tell about it.  We learn a bit about how God works, what happens when we rebel, and that there’s hope for our nation too!

Today we’re going to begin a brand new study in the Old testament book of Jonah. The little book of Jonah is tucked between Obadiah and Micah towards the end of the Old Testament. It’s a book that’s famous for a rather difficult experience Jonah had with a big fish, but there is a lot more to the book of Jonah than that.

It’s just 21 verses long, the shortest book in the Old Testament, but the lessons contained in Obadiah are priceless!  Today on Light on the Hill we conclude our two day look at the book of Obadiah.  This prophet of God was called to pronounce judgement on the Edomites.  And pastor James Kaddis wants to draw our attention to the steps that led to their downfall.  Why is God judging them?  Find out today.
