A Portrait of Grace Part 2

April 7, 2021

As you read the Old Testament, sure you see God’s judgement taking place.  But you also see wonderful portraits of His grace too.  And one such place is Ezekiel chapter twenty.  That’s where we’re headed today on Light on the Hill.  Not only will we focus on the grace of God through Israel’s history, but discover why it’s so important to listen to God’s voice.

We’ve been moving chapter by chapter through the book of Ezekiel. The focus today is on chapter nineteen. It’s a somber and reflective chapter on why the nation of Israel and its leaders needlessly failed, leading to their demise. It’s written for us today that we might be spared the same fate.

We can live about forty days without food, and about three days without water.  Eight minutes without air.  But we can’t live even a second without hope!  And we find the hope our hearts long for, in the resurrection of Christ.  Today we'll be in Luke chapter 24.  And pastor James will point out why the Resurrection is so important, and applies to even our everyday living and perspective.

Today on Light on the Hill, we look back to the day of restoration.  Where through death of Jesus Christ, you and I could now experience restoration with God Almighty.

We’re breaking away from our study of Ezekiel today and tomorrow, so we can share a Good Friday message with you from pastor James Kaddis.  Why is this such a special time for Christians all around the world?   As we begin, pastor James will set out to answer that.  And then take us to Matthew chapter 27, which describes what Jesus went through on the cross for you and me.

If you want to get someone’s attention tell them a story!  Great communicators realize this, and even God Himself employs this method of communication.  We’ll hear how parables and riddles can help us understand concepts and principles in today’s lesson from Ezekiel chapter seventeen.

Blind spots… we all have them, so we need the help of a good friend to tell us the truth when we’re not seeing it.  Ezekiel is friend like that, and we’ll hear from him today on Light on the Hill.

At this particular time Israel was worshipping many false gods, including the god of pleasure.  It’s eerily similar to what’s going on in the world today.  You see pornography was running rampant, people were engaging in sex outside of marriage, and they would sacrifice their babies.  While this is occurring at an alarming rate even today, there’s hope and forgiveness in Jesus Christ.

Today we’re going to finish up our Prophecy update, which is making it abundantly clear Jesus is coming soon.  Pastor James is going to talk about the normalization agreements that have taken place recently between Israel and surrounding nations.  We’ll also take a look at the mark of the beast, and how something as simple as the acceptance of a vaccination could be setting the stage.

In our study of Ezekiel chapter fourteen we’ll notice what happens to those who impatiently insist on their own way. They’re vulnerable to false prophets. And though false prophets will be punished still those who seek their guidance are greatly harmed.
