Sid Roth: Hello, Sid Roth here. Welcome to my world where it's naturally supernatural. My guest, a conservative Jewish man, suddenly cried out, "Who are you?" A voice answered that shattered everything he thought he knew about God. What he heard changed his life forever. Next.

I've thought for myself in every area of life but one. I knew nothing until I discovered a realm where the truth isn't what it seems. A realm where the truth becomes reality. I've spent over 50 years investigating the world of the supernatural. Every moment has led up to the main event. Millions of Jewish people will be saved all over the world. God's heart is for all to believe, for none to perish. It's called the greater glory. Do you believe? It's Supernatural!

Welcome Holy Spirit. Go and flow. David Berman grew up in a conservative Jewish home where everything revolved around Judaism, the synagogue, tradition. David, what was your life like growing up?

David Berman: Growing up, I had a wonderful family. Of course, we would go to synagogue, we'd have our Passover services, and Shabbat. It was very ethnically Jewish, too. My father was a very strong, proud Jewish man. He suffered a lot of persecution himself. My father was 50 when I was born, so he was born in 1913.

He went through some very bad persecutions. He told me he couldn't get certain jobs and couldn't join certain clubs because of being Jewish.

Sid Roth: I remember when I was young, I would go to the beach and there was a sign. It didn't say this, but it meant "no African Americans and no Jews allowed."

David Berman: I followed in his footsteps that way, where I was persecuted terribly, very badly, for the first 16 or 17 years of my life. I suffered terrible persecution, social and physical. That was an unfortunate problem. However, I remember going to synagogue, going to Hebrew school, and my father being very concerned with his family understanding that we are Jewish.

It was a very strong thing. I think part of that came from all the persecution that our people have experienced, just this desire to not give in and to say, "We are Jews, and we're not going anywhere." My father was a very good man, a very good father, and a very strong man. He disciplined when necessary but was also very loving at the same time and would always hug me and kiss me and tell me he loved me. I take after my father a lot in that way.

Sid Roth: David comes from a traditional Jewish family. He loves his Jewish culture, family, and identity. He wears a Yarmulke and he wears what are called Tzitzit, which are strings, but they're more than strings to him or any traditional Jewish person. David, explain to me what the Tzitzit are.

David Berman: My Gentile brothers often ask me why I dress the way I do and why I look the way I do with what I wear. What I wear is two particular things: one is traditional and one is biblical. I wear a Yarmulke on top of my head. The tradition is that Jews wear this because it reminds us that God is our authority, He's above us, and He's always watching us. It's a reminder of that, and it's also part of our Jewish identity.

Secondly, the things that people don't know about are what are called the Tzitzit. These fringes are on a garment that is under my shirt, a four-cornered garment. This comes from Numbers chapter 15. This was instituted by Almighty God to the Jewish men that they would wear this to remind them of the commandments.

One interesting thing is, as you walk in these, I see them out of the corner of my eye. No matter where I go and where I walk, I'm constantly reminded that God has called me to be obedient to Him. This is a tool that Jews use that was instituted by Almighty God to remember the commandments. You can read about that in the book of Numbers, chapter 15.

I've also noticed, and I didn't do it for this reason, but because I look the way I do, many people will talk to me and ask me questions about it. Even sometimes people who don't know the Lord at all are just wondering what that's about. It gives me an opportunity to share Yeshua with them. That is the reason why I dress the way I do.

Sid Roth: David grew up with deep suspicion of Christians. What did you believe about Christians? What did you believe about Jesus?

David Berman: I didn't really think about Jesus, but I really did hate Christians who I considered to be actual Christians. I didn't actually know what a Christian was, but because I was persecuted so badly by people who I knew were going to church on Sundays, I developed tremendous hatred and bitterness in my heart towards these people particularly, and even other Christians when that feeling would rise up.

I was with somebody one time and they said they left their jacket at their church and they were driving by. They asked if I could wait because they wanted to get it. I said sure. They said, "No one is here. Why don't you just come in with me?" I said, "Okay, I'll walk with you." I walked in and there were some people in there eating some food.

They were very nice Christian people and they said to me, "Oh David, nice to meet you. Would you sit down and have some food with us?" I was so angry, I said, "You're not my people, that's not my food, and I don't want anything to do with you." This was the prevailing attitude. Because of all this persecution that I suffered, I was really angry. It took me probably eight years after I came to know Yeshua to really get rid of the effects of that.

Sid Roth: At 19, you cried out something to God. Tell me about that.

David Berman: For two years or so I had been really searching to know God better because as a Jew I always believed that God exists and He created the heavens and the earth and all that. However, I didn't have any kind of real sense that I knew God. I would pray but I didn't sense anything coming back this way.

I got to such a desperation in my life spiritually that I cried out to heaven, "Who are you?" when I was driving in my van by myself. Some people had witnessed to me a little bit here and there. I'd heard some things, but mostly nobody would really tell me anything about Jesus.

When I cried out to heaven with an absolute desperation and almost what I would describe as desperation faith, I was at the end and I knew I had to hear from God. I just cried out, and when I did, the presence of the Lord came in the van, came on my head like a warm oil down my body slowly. I don't even remember driving at that point, and I heard the voice of the Lord say, "I am Jesus," which makes sense because I would not have known the name Yeshua then.

I would not have known what that Hebrew word was at all. He said, "And I will save you if you serve me." I heard that so clearly.

Sid Roth: Did the word "save" mean anything to you?

David Berman: When He said it, it did. When I heard "save," I understood what it meant. It was illumination by the Holy Spirit as He was drawing me for two years. It illuminated to me that this word "save" means eternal life. When I heard the voice of the Lord, I couldn't move and I never felt anything so wonderful in my life.

Sid Roth: Then shortly a while later, you get knocked out cold. What happened?

David Berman: I got slain in the spirit when I was getting baptized. I came up and I got blasted by the Spirit of God and I was just out. His assistant was holding me up and I remember the preacher saying, "Well, looks like we have a drunken Jew here or something." It was the Holy Spirit and it just absolutely blasted me.

Sid Roth: Shortly thereafter, you start speaking in a language you've never been instructed. Explain that.

David Berman: I was praying and the Spirit came on me again. Especially when you are young in the Lord and first get saved, this sense of the presence of God is just overwhelming. You can't really manage it in a way; it just takes you. So it just came over me and I'm praying and then tongues came out, heavenly tongues came out, which is listed in 1 Corinthians 14. When we speak in an unknown tongue, no man understands us for God understands us.

Sid Roth: Had you heard someone speak in supernatural languages before? Did it just... once it started, did you feel you could not or would not want to stop? It's not coming from your mind.

David Berman: No, it just came out of me. As I recall, it came out of me for a little while, maybe 30 seconds or a minute, and then it stopped. I just kind of thought, "I've heard about tongues. Is that..." You have to understand, I'm a Jewish man raised in the synagogue. I don't know nothing about the Holy Spirit move of God, speaking in tongues, or all the language that we use in "Christianese."

I didn't understand any of this stuff. I think that's one of the reasons why it was so powerful, because I had no understanding of what was happening to me until it happened, and then God was beginning to show me what was happening.

Sid Roth: The same thing with the gifts. You started prophesying over people. Before this oil came on you, did you prophesy over people?

David Berman: No. I was just a regular Jewish guy. I could tell you so many stories, but I love the ones about witnessing about the name of Jesus. I'll tell you a really wonderful one. My way when I lived in Connecticut—that's where I grew up and where I got saved—my way was to go out at night to the donut shop in town and preach the gospel because at that time the only place open at night was the 24-hour donut shop. I would go there two or three times a week at night, late, like 12:00 at night, 1:00 even sometimes, to find someone to minister to.

Sid Roth: You are radical for Jesus.

David Berman: Amen. I went one day to the donut shop and I walk in and the Spirit says to me, "Not tonight, not here. Go to the Mobil station by the highway," which I had to drive a ways to get to. I drove to the Mobil station by the highway. I said, "Lord, what am I doing here?" I walked inside of the gas station. The cashier behind the desk, I said, "Lord, him?" The Spirit goes, "No, go outside and wait."

Sid Roth: How clear was God talking to you?

David Berman: Like that. That was an inner voice coming inside, like the Spirit speaking inside of me. So I walk out and I stand outside. There's a big highway and there are a tons of cars going. My eyes go to one car way off in the distance. I can't get my eyes off this car. I see it and I follow it.

It goes all the way off the exit and it comes around up to the light, takes a left-hand turn, comes up, pulls into the gas station, and drives right up to me. A woman puts the window down and she says to me, "Excuse me, sir, I am lost."

Sid Roth: And you said?

David Berman: I said to her, "I know you're lost. The Holy Spirit sent me to tell you how to not be lost." I preached the gospel to her and I called my wife. The woman was homeless. I called my wife and told her what was going on. I told her I was going to take her over to the hotel and have them take her to her room and let's minister to this woman. We got her a hotel room and took her over.

The next day I told my wife, "Honey, go to the store, buy some nice food, take out our finest dishes, and put a beautiful table together. We're going to bring this woman to our home and minister to her." So my wife put a lovely table together with the beautiful food. We brought her over and ministered the gospel to her. She comes to know Jesus. She lived with us for six months as we took care of her and helped her.

Sid Roth: You really take the word of God seriously.

David Berman: Yes, brother. This is not a game, is it? She was able to get on her feet and praise the Lord. So that was amazing because I go every time to the donut shop. Then the Lord said, "No, go to the Mobil station. No, go outside. There it is, right to me, I'm lost." What more do you want?

Sid Roth: I'll tell you what. We're entering the most supernatural season in history because of the covenant with Abraham, the Jewish people, and the church. David will demonstrate how you can move in signs and wonders. Be right back.

Project 77, over 15 years has printed and delivered more than 2 million copies of Sid Roth's book, *They Thought for Themselves*, directly into Jewish homes across North America. This book, written under God's direction, shatters walls of resistance and opens up hearts as it tells the real-life stories of ten Jewish people, including Sid Roth, who all experienced a radical encounter with the ultimate truth that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah.

And now, God wants to use you through Project 77 to place even more of these books into Jewish hands and to pray for many more lives transformed for all eternity. A 12-year-old Jewish boy opened his family's mailbox before anyone else and found Sid's book, *They Thought for Themselves*. He read it cover to cover and gave his life to Yeshua. A rabbinical student deep in Orthodox Jewish tradition received Sid's book and discovered his Messiah.

Many years ago I had a dream. I knew it was God. It was so real. I realized God was telling me to put together a book of Jewish testimonies for unsaved Jewish people to come to know the Messiah. We have to get as many of these books in the hands of Jewish people as possible. What are you going to do about it? I know what you're going to do.

Create an everlasting testimony of your love for the Jewish people and also experience God's promise of multiplied blessings in your own life. Call or go online at sidroth.org/77 to make your donation of 77 dollars so we can send one of Sid Roth's evangelistic books directly to seven Jewish homes. Or you can donate 777 dollars to send a copy to 77 Jewish homes.

That's like reaching an entire neighborhood. And in gratitude for your generous gift for Project 77, we'll send you your own copy of *They Thought for Themselves* to build up your faith. You'll receive the names of the seven Jewish people who receive a Sid Roth book. They will not receive your name.

Get a beautiful keychain replica of the High Priest's breastplate to use as an everyday reminder to pray for the salvation of your adopted Jewish families and for your own family members. You'll get your own copy of Sid Roth's book, *There Must Be Something More*. This is the time to reach Jewish people.

When David met Messiah, his eyes were supernaturally opened to God's covenant with Abraham. What did God show you?

David Berman: God showed me that the covenant with Abraham was a beautiful promise. He's taken, he's put into a deep sleep. This Hebrew word for a deep sleep means coming under revelation. It is God Himself who makes the covenant. He's the one that walks through, seen in the fiery pot and the flame.

It's not Abraham that walks through. In the covenantal relationship that was made, you would have to split the animal and each person in the covenant would have to walk through each way. When they're walking through, they're making this vow, basically saying, "If I break this covenant with you, may I become as this dead animal."

It's a very serious thing amongst the Jewish covenant. It was God Himself that walked through that. Abraham did not walk through that. God makes this covenant of salvation and we have to receive it. Part of the problem with us is that we always think we have to do something, especially Jewish people. We have to keep the commandments.

I know we have to do things God wants us to do. However, you can do nothing to receive this salvation in your own strength except for simply to receive it because He did an unconditional salvation, meaning it just takes faith. This is a beautiful thing. It's from this understanding of security that we can operate in these supernatural gifts because you have to first believe the presence of God is in your life.

You have to first understand your place in Christ. You have to understand that you're wrapped in the glory. As a Jew, I have a prayer shawl. When I put that on, it has all the fringes on it that represent the 613 commandments. When I look at that as a Messianic Jew, you know what I see? I see that those were fulfilled for me. That where I fail, the Lord has fulfilled for me.

When I wrap myself in the tallit, I think I'm wrapped in Yeshua. I think of all of that only because I understand the covenant made with Abraham was for me. With all of my faults and my sin struggles as a human being, supernaturally the most important thing is this security in understanding I am in covenant with the Lord God Almighty who made the covenant with me, for me.

By His grace, I'm saved through faith. That enables me to then believe God for the move of the Spirit in the gifts of the Spirit for His glory. But when we move in the Spirit, we are giving a supernatural witness of the power of God.

Sid Roth: What is God saying to us in your opinion right now? Look in the camera and tell them.

David Berman: I believe that we are in a time where we're going to have to decide whether we're going to be followers of Yeshua or not. I think there are many people who play church. We have to come to seriousness in our walk with Jesus. I see a separation of the wheat and the tare. You have to look in the mirror and I have to look in the mirror and ask myself, "Are you wheat or are you tare?"

Wheat and tare look exactly the same. That's the problem. The unbelievers and the false converts will intermingle amongst the church sometimes. We need born-again, Spirit-filled believers that are serious about their faith. Serious about your faith means that something happens to you and then you operate in your faith.

If you tell no one about Jesus... let me give you an example. I walk around as a Jew. I look like a Jew. I wear a Yarmulke. I have the Tzitzit on. It's clear that I'm a Jew, and I never, in looking like this, I never have had one Christian Gentile come up to me and witness to me. My friends, if the Spirit is in you, what is the purpose of the Holy Spirit? Gifts of the Spirit, move of the Spirit, of course. But what ultimately?

To convict the world of its sin. The Holy Spirit is the great prosecutor that convicts the world of its sin. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day to give the word of God. Today is the day to live for Christ. Today is the day. You must share the gospel, not just in word but in deed. People need to be loved. We're living in a loveless society. When you love people and care for them, when you go out of your way, you will change lives, which means you will change eternity.

Sid Roth: I want you to repeat this prayer. This is your step to get rid of every sin you've ever committed. This is your first step to hearing God's voice. Repeat this prayer. Jesus, I'm a sinner. Against you and you alone have I sinned. And I'm so sorry. I believe the blood of Yeshua washes me clean. And now that I'm clean, Jesus live inside of me. I make you my Lord and Savior. Amen.

About It's Supernatural!

It's Supernatural! deals with subjects that most shy away from in this seeker-sensitive age. It emphasizes the supernatural, biblical viewpoint that the secular networks do not understand. And at the end of each program, host, Sid Roth, tells the viewers how they can have intimacy with God.

About Sid Roth

Sid Roth, host of It's Supernatural! television program, is a Jewish believer in Jesus the Messiah. In 1977 Sid started a ministry called Messianic Vision and a nationally syndicated radio broadcast by the same name (he started the TV program in the 1990's). But the Messianic Vision is more than a ministry or a program; it is a desire to reach out with the good news of the Messiah "to the Jew first" (Romans 1:16). This is not just God's historical order for spreading the gospel, but also His eternal spiritual order. When we follow this "law of evangelism," God opens a supernatural door to reach large numbers of Gentiles (even more than if we had gone to the Gentile first). God's heart is to reach all people. His strategy is "to the Jew first."
