Dr. Charles Stanley

The Foundation of Our Liberty - Part 2B

June 14, 2022

Are you trusting in Jesus or your good works? Dr. Stanley continues his examination of Paul’s letter to the Galatians as he guides us through Galatians 2:16.

We can’t disappoint God because He has no expectation of us. We don’t even need His approval because we already have it.

Dr. Stanley states that most of us are still seeking liberation, even after God has freed us and accepted us as His own. We continue to remain in bondage to the laws and principles that never came from God.

The good news is, once we have received Christ as our Savior, God declares that we are accepted in Him. This justification by faith means we do not have to earn His approval.

Are you trusting in Jesus or your good works? Dr. Stanley continues his examination of Paul’s letter to the Galatians as he guides us through Galatians 2:11-15. Many Jews believed that Gentiles could only be saved by accepting the Mosaic law. This put Peter and Paul in conflict because, during a meeting in Antioch, Peter sided with the Jews. Dr. Stanley addresses this confrontation and recognizes that conflict is all around us. Attempting to resolve a conflict in a godly manner often results in blessings to the victim and the persecutor alike. Ultimately, our response is our responsibility.

For many of us, the biggest battle we’ll ever face is between what we’ve been taught and the truth of God’s Word. Dr. Stanley explains how personal freedom is grounded in our relationship with Christ. By reading the Word and applying its truth to our lives, we will gain a peace that comes with knowing God—and the ability to rest in the security only He can provide.

Are you trusting in Jesus or your good works? Dr. Stanley continues his examination of Paul’s letter to the Galatians as he guides us through Galatians 1:11-2:10. The people of Galatia were confused about how they were to be accepted by God. Paul preached that men are saved by faith, while false teachers said that salvation comes by adhering to the law of Moses. Paul boldly builds his case by first convincing the church that his gospel came to Him from God, not man. Therefore, to reject him was to reject God. Dr. Stanley says the same issue of authority is with us today. Without a foundation in God’s Word, we are bound to fall into false teaching. Any system that subverts the grace of God through faith and love is contrary to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Are you trusting in Jesus or your good works? Dr. Stanley guides us through Galatians 1:6-10 and highlights how despite already enjoying the liberty that is theirs through Jesus Christ, Paul admonishes the Galatians for returning to a works-based hope of salvation. Dr. Stanley tells us that many of today’s Christians have chosen the same path: leaving a life of grace for a life of laws. But these laws were added by man, not God. Our Father has called us to a life of grace, not because of anything we've done but out of His absolute love for us.

Are you trusting in Jesus or your good works? By examining Paul’s letter to the Galatians, Dr. Stanley gives us a biblical understanding of how we can gain spiritual freedom through God’s grace. Paul reintroduces himself by affirming his divine apostleship. He then reminds his Galatian brethren that the redemptive act of Jesus Christ freed them—once and for all—from their bondage of sin and delivered them from the evils of the world.
