The Cross: A Debt Paid in Full*
When we incur financial debt, we have obligated ourselves to pay back what we owe. But how do we pay back our spiritual debt of sin?
Dr. Stanley teaches us that God’s only answer to our sin-debt was, and is, the cross. Through His love and justice He sent an innocent Person to the cross to die for our sins. The result proved that the sacrifice was accepted and redemption was complete.
We must understand that His atoning death is the heart of the gospel. Christ summed it up when He said, "'It is finished!'" and bowed His head and gave up His spirit (John 19:29-31).
