April 10, 2020

The resurrection awaiting us as believers is an incredible mystery. Out of love, God provided passages in His Word to comfort us and prepare us for the coming miraculous transformation: Our physical bodies will be changed into imperishable creations that reflect His glory. But once we have an understanding of our future, what’s left? A challenge for today.

It’s normal to wonder what the resurrection will be like for us. The Bible says we’ll be given new, incorruptible bodies, a statement that often raises more questions than it answers. If you’ve ever wondered about difficult issues around death, burial, and the believer, look to God’s Word for comfort and hope.

The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is a stunning truth that changes everything. It means Jesus lives and will live forever. It means we all have the opportunity to live forever with Him. And an event of such magnitude is a profound motivator: It inspires us to live each day in a new way, aware of eternity and our accountability to God.

Some of the Bible’s teaching on the resurrection can be confusing. What is Jesus the “first fruits” of? Why is He the “last Adam”? And what does it all have to do with us? It’s a simple enough event: Jesus died, but was able to overcome the grave, therefore He rose again. But God’s Word tells a much richer and more detailed story that involves every believer in the redemption of earth and a glorious future with a perfect King.

The resurrection, both Jesus’ and our own, isn’t just a principle to believe in. If you take it seriously, it will change how you live: filled with joy, eager to obey God, and looking forward to an eternity in heaven with Him.

The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of the gospel. Without it, we would have no assurance of a life after death. It’s only because Jesus endured death on the cross and yet conquered it, rising on the third day, that we have the same assurance: Just as we died with Him, we will also rise with Him.
