Obedience: The Test of Our Love - Part 2

September 14, 2019

Jesus said that if we loved Him, we would keep His commandments (John 14:15). He didn't say we would go to church, read the Bible, or do good deeds. We would obey Him. Our obedience is a direct reflection of our love for God. In this message, Dr. Stanley encourages us not to take Christ's sacrifice on the cross for granted. Instead, we ought to commit to obeying Him at every opportunity.

Have you ever found yourself refusing to follow God's direction? Jonah knew what God was calling him to do, yet resisted anyway. It took a drastic change of circumstances for Jonah to realize his mistake and repent. What is God asking you to do? Know that He stands with open arms, inviting us to trust Him. And He blesses us when we make our lives completely available to Him.

No matter how committed you are to Christ, your loyalty will be tested along the way. In Genesis 22, Abraham faced the most difficult test a father could face. Yet when God called to Abraham, he answered, “Here I am” (Gen. 22:1). Abraham trusted God because he knew that He had final authority. In this message, Dr. Stanley uses Abraham’s story to show us how trials can strengthen our commitment to God.
