Comfort from the Empty Tomb

March 31, 2018

The words, “He is not here, He is risen!” made all the difference to the first believers, and it should also profoundly affect your life and mine. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we can find healing from our past, experience power in our daily lives, and rejoice in the promise of heaven.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the single most important event of the Christian faith. Because of it, we know that our Lord is alive today. We have confidence that there is life beyond the grave. We have the assurance that Christ’s atoning sacrifice for our sins was accepted. We can look forward to the restoration of our bodies, and we no longer need to fear death. And that’s something we can rejoice in forever.

The defining event of our faith and church is the awe-inspiring resurrection of Christ. Calvary not only demonstrated His power over death, but also God’s capacity to keep His word. In this sermon, Dr. Stanley reminds us that without this event, Christianity would lose its message that Christ came to earth to die for our sins and triumph over death. Because of His resurrection, we can face our tomorrows knowing that He is always with us—now and in heaven.

When we incur financial debt, we have obligated ourselves to pay back what we owe. But how do we pay back our spiritual debt of sin? Dr. Stanley teaches us that God’s only answer to our sin-debt was, and is, the cross. Through His love and justice He sent an innocent Person to the cross to die for our sins. The result proved that the sacrifice was accepted and redemption was complete. We must understand that His atoning death is the heart of the gospel. Christ summed it up when He said, "'It is finished!'" and bowed His head and gave up His spirit (John 19:29-31).

Jesus said, “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). Are you on the narrow path? How do you know? Find the answers to these critical questions in this inspiring message by Dr. Stanley.

Of all the attributes of God, which is the most important? He's omnipotent, gracious, loving, kind, omniscient, just, merciful, compassionate, glorious, omnipresent, and HOLY.  Above all else, God is holy. And that is the central message of the blood of Christ. Without it, Holy God could not have a relationship with fallen man. In this message, Dr. Stanley dissects this crucial concept in elaborate detail. Discover how God has made a way for all people to be reconciled to Him and become holy as He is holy.

Stepping barefoot on a nail would cause piercing pain, as would having that same nail removed. But would you ignore the nail to save yourself the pain of extraction? Not unless you want a gangrenous infection. The choice is obvious when it comes to our physical health. Yet most of us are guilty of burying emotional wounds, allowing them to fester into full-blown bitterness.   In this message, Dr. Stanley exhorts us to examine those tender places. Yes, it can be painful to do so, but it is ultimately worth it. Find courage to face your wounds and experience God’s healing touch.
