We know God clearly speaks to us through His Word, the Holy Spirit, our circumstances, and other people. He does this so we will understand the truth and be conformed to it and share it with others. Be sure you're listening to God by accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior, reading His Word, and fellowshipping with a church that teaches the truth of Scripture. Also, evaluate your life often to be sure you are constantly listening to God.

God has fitted us all together in the body of Christ to love one another. So in times of discouragement, we need only rely on the strength of love and encouragement from others. The Spirit of God has equipped us to face everything. We just need reminders that He wants us to walk in joy, as people who know our identity.

The Lord is not vague. When He speaks to us, He always has something very specific to share, and He doesn't hesitate or waver in His communication. God speaks to us through His Word, the Holy Spirit, our circumstances, and other people. We can either listen to Him passively—without intending to change—or we can listen aggressively, ready to apply truth to our lives and be conformed by it.

Learning to listen to God is one of the most essential parts of the Christian life. Our God is not a speechless God; He desires both to hear us and be heard by us. If we want to hear from God, we need to set aside time to be alone with Him. We also need to obey His Word so we can stand before Him with clean, pure hearts, ready and willing to listen to His loving guidance.

What evidence do we have that we're growing spiritually? If we want to grow spiritually, we must first deal with sin so that our minds can be responsive to the Spirit of God within us. Then we have to be hungry for the Word of God to unite the truth and the faith in our hearts. How else will we grow in Christ's likeness?
