Grace Thoughts

Tim Kelley

The Psalm of the Precious Secret, Part 2

March 19, 2013
So few of us develop a walk with God that is actually our sufficiency in life’s trials. Do we start our day with the Lord? Do we meet him for lunch? Talk with him in the evening? The more time I spend with Him during the day, the less I will need anything or anyone else to ‘cope’ with life’s stuff.
References: Psalms 16

A drifter has no or little resistance to the subtly of the world's currents, but he will find himself quietly being drawn away. Drifting is usually initially undetectable, until at some point you are made aware of how far you've gone. To quote William Newall, "Drifting is the quietest, easiest, most delightful way of dying. How can we combat the tendancy to drift in our Christian walk?

I am not much, probably to a fault, for subjective Christian experiences. So when I speak about walking in God’s presence, I am not referring to a subjective feeling of God’s presence that gives us a warm, joyful peace. Although those moments are wonderful, they are usually temporary. When those moments are our focus they often can become manufactured by human emotion rather than the gentle visit of God’s Spirit. With that said, I think it’s important that we ‘Connect’ with the Lord through the Holy Spirit on a daily basis. We have to ‘Show Up’.

There are so many facts that fly in the face of God's favor. Life events, crushing loss, deep grief—all with no answers or explanation. The timing of God is such a mystery. It will deeply challenge one's relationship with God; it causes us to question our frame of reference and try to program our internal thought process. Our greatest problems come when we counsel ourselves outside of the Word and who God is.

Often times life and its various seasons and nuances will bring us to a place of despair, spiritual weariness and a dreaded spiritual confusion. This is the background of Psalm 11. David, a young man, anointed by the prophet Samuel, was hiding in caves from the King of Israel, Saul. None of it made sense. Why would God send Samuel to anoint him future King of Israel, just to send him running and hiding in caves from the present King? Why?

About Tim Kelley

Tim Kelley, at the age of 18, surrendered his life and heart to Jesus Christ. After receiving his degree in Biblical Studies, he relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida. In July of 1989 he became the senior pastor of Grace Connection Church and launched a local radio broadcast called “Grace Thoughts”, a daily radio program broadcast in the Tampa Bay region http://wtis1110.com/ and is now heard at www.oneplace.com. Pastor Kelley is now in his 33th year in public ministry here in the Tampa Bay area. He is an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. As you may have guessed, our pastor grew up in New England in the Plymouth Mass. area. Pastor Kelley’s two greatest and heartfelt passions are teaching and preaching a clear gospel of God’s grace and its impact in our daily lives, as well as his love and compassion for people (even if they are not New England Fans).  Pastor Kelley has a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and is currently pursuing a second Masters in Counseling, graduating in May 2013.  He is happily married to his beautiful wife of 27 years, Peggy. They have one child at home, Sadie Lynne.  Their beautiful daughter Hannah Grace, in February 2012, went home to be with the Lord, due to a firearm mishap after a church service. Pastor Kelley and Peggy have started the Hannah Grace Foundation in memory of their daughter, which raises funds for the housing, care and education of children and young adults, here locally in the Tampa Bay region, throughout America as well as the third world.
