Blessed Be the Meek 1

"Meekness is the Inward Grace of the soul, calmness towards God in particular. It is the acceptance of Gods dealings with us considering them as good, in that they enhance the closeness of our relationship with Him…. This meekness does not blame God for the persecutions and evil doings of men."(Zodhiates)

When God created the human race He did it perfectly. Physically we knew no death, sickness or pain. What we forget however is that we were also psychologically perfect - balanced, with values uncorrupted, right thought patterns; stress and anxiety were nonexistent. The whole human race now needs psychiatric help. Though many may seem self reliant and stable, without God, the best we can do is build strong defense mechanisms around strongholds to reduce fear and vulnerability.

We were created in the Garden of Eden, not only physically perfect, but also psychologically perfect. Jesus took on the task of true soul contentment in Matthew 5's beatitudes. Yet we live in the world that is in a struggle to maintain a mental balance. Seems to me as a Christian, who believes the answer is first in my faith than in the world, that I want to see what God did in creation, then in maintenance of the creation. We want to show you that God has given us the tools to overcome most mental hindrances and conditions.

Please do not think that because you are depressed or someone else is depressed, that they or you are any less spiritual. More often than not, Spirituality has nothing to do with it. There are medical reasons for depression. There is the temperament connection; a melancholic is more prone to depression than a Phlegmatic. Sometimes it is stress and pressure. Great loss and grief can cause depression. Depression can be circumstantial and situational. There are certain Zones that people consistently enter into that deposits them in, keeps them in or leads them to depression.

In a parting overview of this incredible Psalm, we come back to the setting that its author was amidst a life altering trial. Pain, pressure, disillusionment, spiritual confusion, stress, no earthly hopefulness.

About Tim Kelley

Tim Kelley, at the age of 18, surrendered his life and heart to Jesus Christ. After receiving his degree in Biblical Studies, he relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida. In July of 1989 he became the senior pastor of Grace Connection Church and launched a local radio broadcast called “Grace Thoughts”, a daily radio program broadcast in the Tampa Bay region http://wtis1110.com/ and is now heard at www.oneplace.com. Pastor Kelley is now in his 33th year in public ministry here in the Tampa Bay area. He is an avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics. As you may have guessed, our pastor grew up in New England in the Plymouth Mass. area. Pastor Kelley’s two greatest and heartfelt passions are teaching and preaching a clear gospel of God’s grace and its impact in our daily lives, as well as his love and compassion for people (even if they are not New England Fans).  Pastor Kelley has a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies and is currently pursuing a second Masters in Counseling, graduating in May 2013.  He is happily married to his beautiful wife of 27 years, Peggy. They have one child at home, Sadie Lynne.  Their beautiful daughter Hannah Grace, in February 2012, went home to be with the Lord, due to a firearm mishap after a church service. Pastor Kelley and Peggy have started the Hannah Grace Foundation in memory of their daughter, which raises funds for the housing, care and education of children and young adults, here locally in the Tampa Bay region, throughout America as well as the third world.
