Thus far, the homeschooling movement has sustained two major attacks. Some thought it would produce inferior academic results, calling for onerous government controls. This was answered by a flood of studies on homeschool academic performance. Following this, came the attacks on homeschool socialization. Some thought that homeschooled graduates would be incapable of functioning in society – raising families themselves, getting a good college education, or engaging in the economy. This also was answered by studies on socialization and surveys of homeschool graduates.
So the movement grew in numbers and epistemological self-consciousness. Now, homeschooling appears to be changing the social fabric of families everywhere. These kids did not attend socialist schools. They don’t think like socialists. They don’t vote like socialists. They won’t support a socialist nation. Now, that’s a problem, for the socialists. These homeschoolers are guilty as charged. Mike Farris, chairman of HSLDA, sounds an alarm on this edition of Generations concerning this third wave attack on Home Education in America.
