Boston, MA: Where It All Began - Pigs Don’t Have Wings, Really They Don’t

June 6, 2023

Here, we run over a quick history lesson. Boston, Massachusetts, was where it all began in 2003. And, here we are back to where it began all over again. Harvard University, Cambridge, Sommerville, Boston . . . that's where Obergefell began. That's where the next round is happening. It turns out that Roberts’ and Alito's predictions were dead on, that is, in the minority report for the Obergefell ruling. But here's the question that keeps occurring to us. What use is it to rush into the courtroom in an asylum, and argue the case that pigs don't have wings, and that guy's not Napoleon?

The Washington (Com)Post introduces a series of articles intended to go after homeschooling, beginning with a few dissatisfied homeschool grads they scraped up from somewhere. Actually, based on a large survey, it turns out 14% of Christian kids raised in homeschool apostatized. But 28% of Christian kids who went to Christian school apostatized, and 34% of public schoolers apostatized. But how does this happen? While God is sovereign over all fruit-bearing plants in the field, there are some lessons to be learned from our own failures. Some blame spanking. But what about parent-child relationships, high levels of hypocrisy in the home, and superficial fundamentalism, or a failure to inculcate a solid biblical worldview?

Barna's recent study finds a super majority of Americans AND Christians have a negative view of megachurches and mega pastors. But also, evangelicals are not liked either. But, why the trend? About half of evangelicalism moved into large megachurches between 1970 and 2014. But, Jesus's view of Christian community goes beyond the superficiality and transience of modern life. The body of Christ is perpetually wounded. Christ's community involves 490 forgivenesses, persecutions at the hands of the world, deeper relationships and deeper wounding, and always an intensified view of our sin and hypocrisy . . . and His redemption. The programs, bucks, and buildings don't count for much. The church is planted in tears and bloodshed . . . through 1,000 demonic attacks . . . through brokenness, through pain, through agony . . . through anguish . . . through a million prayers . . . and ultimately, by the power of God and the work of the Holy Spirit.

Secular media is having a heyday going after the Christian ministries linked to scandals taking place with the Duggar family and Hillsong. While you can't count on the Washington [com]Post to rightly discern the issues surrounding Ananias and Saphira (or any other problem in the church), we want to be sure that we identify the ditches into which Christians may fall. We point out the ditches of antinomianism and legalism, both of which end in catastrophe. Theology matters. Authoritarianism and the sovereignty of man can do a great deal of damage. If Christians will not embrace God's full-orbed law or commit themselves solidly to the doctrine of the sovereignty of God, they will give way to a shallow faith, man-made rules, a man-centered theology, and a ministry that won't sustain when the fire burns.

When faced with gross injustice and the most inhumane treatment of children, and the sharp rise in human trafficking (or the injustice of abortion), where does this awareness go? Do hearts callous over and turn cold? Awareness without action will only breed apathy. So don't listen to this program if you are not really on board with the Micah 6:8 mandate. How do we speak about these injustices with our children? How will we raise them with a heart for God's justice . . . and mercy?

This may be the most notorious killer in history in terms of longevity and record of kills (performed by his own hand). Warren Hern is an abortionist operating in Colorado since 1972. Hitler was 13 years at it. Lenin was 7 years at it. Mao was 28 years at it. Yet, a surprising honest article from The Atlantic discovers Hern to have had a conscience. He is human. He celebrates Christmas. He holds a flimsy ethical justification, as if this is enough of a defense for the day of judgment. Here is a study of Psalm 52.

Fox News has been outed as committed to the Woke/Transgender agenda. But Sean Hannity is still hanging in there. We offer three reasons why conservativism is the wrong worldview for Christians. While the honor of tradition can be helpful and an extension of common grace, there are three problems with conservative media and politics. Fake conservatives will oppose drag queens for 6-year-olds, but they're still okay with kinky pornography for 26-year-olds . . . and William Shakespeare's homosexual sonnets. Too many conservatives surrender the principle with King Saul (and preserve Agag in the process).

The big blue cities like New York City, San Francisco, and Chicago are losing millions, and the trend continued well into 2022. New York City is looking more like a gigantic ghost town, especially with the depopulation of office space. A full twenty-six Empire State Buildings could fit into New York City's empty office space. All of this is good news for those who have watched the blue cities corrupt themselves for too long. The Babel principle kicks in with the trend toward decentralization, exodus from the big cities, weapons of mass destruction, telecommuting, and the reversal of Roe v. Wade to the determination of the states. We end with some helpful guidance for families who wish to be freed from the slavery of debt and the bondage of the big cities. Hey, big city, turn me loose and set me free.

Here is a list of the top 10 most dangerous books used in typical highschool (and college) literature programs. These are highly influential and insidious classics that must be carefully discerned and considered by a worldview analysis. Included on the list are The Call of The Wild, Frankenstein, Of Mice and Men, and others. These books mark the Christian apostasy or the apologetics department for atheistic secularism and the nihilism of the day. Let us not approach this stuff like the babe in the woods . . . but fully prepared to cast down imaginations. . . .

The sins of wives are just as important as the sins of husbands in the biblical counseling room. Dr. David Edgington is the author of the book, "The Abusive Wife: Ministering to the Contentious Woman." He calls this a major problem in the present feminist-driven culture. There is hope for husbands and wives caught in this terrible cycle of the biblically-defined sin of reviling.

Christian leaders like Rod Dreher, Al Mohler, and Douglas Wilson are seriously grappling with the question. What next? What happens at the burial of a burned-out secularism? Are we salvaging or rebuilding? But more importantly, are we optimistic or pessimistic? Shall we get bound up in questions over the short-term end game? What if we don’t make much progress in our own lifetimes? What if our eschatological expectations or ministry goals are not met? What are the things Jesus has taught us to rejoice in? What is the prime motivator?
