About Discover the Word

The Discover the Word radio program has its roots in the Radio Bible Class Daily program that began in 1980. In addition to classic messages from RBC Ministries founder Dr. M. R. DeHaan, a panel of RBC staff members and guests assembled from time to time to discuss important topics. These “Friday panel discussions” became quite popular, and a few years later the program went exclusively to the topical discussion format with Herb Vander Lugt, Jim Pittman, Ron Chadwick, and Mart DeHaan as the regular teachers. Then in 1991, Haddon Robinson and Alice Mathews joined Mart DeHaan and, in a more expositional way, worked through Bible passages to find direction for daily living. In 1998, the program became known as Discover the Word. Haddon and Alice retired from the program in 2014 and RBC Ministries' name was changed to Our Daily Bread ministries in 2015.

Bill Crowder joined the Our Daily Bread Ministries staff after more than 20 years as a pastor. As vice president of teaching content, Bill works closely with Mart DeHaan providing evaluation of Our Daily Bread’s biblical content for various ministry efforts. He is a contributing writer for the Our Daily Bread devotional, has written many Bible study booklets for Our Daily Bread’s Discovery Series, and has published several books with Discovery House Publishers. Bill has also spent the last several years as the on-air teaching chaplain for Our Daily Bread’s weekly national radio program Sport.org. Wilson and Darla, her two Rottweilers, take her on walks in the open space behind her house.

Mart DeHaan is the grandson of Our Daily Bread founder, Dr. M. R. DeHaan, and the son of former president Richard W. DeHaan.

Having served at Our Daily Bread Ministries for over 35 years, Mart is heard regularly on the Discover the Word radio program and seen on Day of Discovery television. Mart is also a contributing writer for the Our Daily Bread devotional, the Discovery Series booklets, and a monthly column and blog on timely issues called “Been Thinking About”. He and his wife, Diane, have two adult children. Mart enjoys spending time outdoors, whether fishing or playing golf.
