It's Best to Patiently Wait for God Part 2

April 16, 2024

You might not find it so difficult to trust God when times are good, but how about when you’re waiting on God or times are tough?  And your expectations aren’t met?  Will you trust God then?  Today on Abounding Grace we find Abram and Sarai in the waiting room.  While they should have been trusting in God, they tried to help God out.

Humility
When Jesus "made himself nothing ... taking the nature of a servant," He modeled, for all believers, true humility. Murray calls this "our true nobility" and "the distinguishing feature of discipleship." In twelve brief but powerful chapters, Murray journeys through Scripture and Christ's life, underscoring the utmost need for humility---as opposed to pride---in the Christian's life. With insightful, penetrating clarity, Murray calls all Christians to turn from pride, empty themselves, and study the character of Christ to be filled with His grace. Often called the best work on humility ever written.

Whether it’s in the doctor’s office or in traffic, we typically don’t like to wait!  We grow impatient if we have to wait for something for 10 minutes, but imagine having to wait for something for many years!  Today we turn to the story of Abram and Sarai waiting for their promised son to arrive.  After waiting for quite some time they decide to take matters into their own hands!  Big mistake.

Ask 10 people on the street who is the Holy Spirit, and you might get 10 very different answers. And many are under the impression that He’s just some inanimate force out there. But today on Abounding Grace we’ll learn the truth about the Holy Spirit, and who He really is. He’s a person, has a will and emotions, speaks and empowers the believer for starters.

Genesis chapter fifteen is in front of us today on Abounding Grace.  Last time we heard how the Lord came to Abram, encouraging him not to be afraid because He would protect and provide for Him. We’ll hear today how Abram believed the Lord and God credited it to him as righteousness. That’s a good model for us to consider.

Do not be afraid!  That phrase is scattered throughout the Bible, over and over again. We could rightly conclude that the Lord knew these are words we need to hear, especially right now.  Today we turn together to chapter 15 and uncover some wonderful promises of God that can calm our fears.

We’re moving right along in our study of Genesis, with another stop in chapter 14.  Something really jumps off the page in this chapter and that is the rescuing power of God.  Be encouraged as you hear all about it today on Abounding Grace.

We’re in the middle of our study in Genesis, and we left off in chapter fourteen.  Here we see a stark contrast between the decision making of Lot and Abram. One would choose for himself, and the other would respond in humility.  But through all of it we’re reminded again that God uses everything, the good the bad, the ugly, successes and failures.  Allow that to encourage your heart today.

Conflict, strife and division… very sadly its very common in today’s world, and even in the church.  And if that’s something you’re dealing with right now, keep listening, as I think you’ll get a lot out of this study on Abounding Grace.  And if you’re not, well you can be sure, that you will at some point in the future.  Pastor Ed Taylor will also offer up five things that can serve to help us avoid conflict, as we recall a time when Lot and Abram’s servants are arguing.  God’s blessings had turned to strife.

There’s a great deal of confusion today, even in the church, about the Holy Spirit.  Is he just some impersonal force?  Or is He actually a person?  Today we’ll set out to answer the question, Who is the Holy Spirit?  We’ll be covering First Corinthians twelve.

We’re in the middle of pastor Ed Taylor’s study of Genesis right now.  Today we’ll be looking together at Genesis chapter thirteen, and receiving some incredible lessons for those times in life when we fail.  If you’ll remember last time we saw Abraham blow it big time. He was allowing fear to govern his decisions instead of trusting in God.  But now, he’s about to get back on track- and that track leads right to where God first spoke to him.

Today, pastor Ed Taylor resumes his series in Genesis. God places a calling on each of our lives, and we can either respond with faith or with fear. Abraham serves as a great example to us in his journey of faith. But he wasn’t perfect, and had his moments where he got off track. Let’s join pastor Ed and hear about Abraham’s Faith and Failure from Genesis chapter twelve.
