Today we get right back into First Corinthians with pastor Ed Taylor on Abounding Grace. We’re about to open chapter two, and receive an awesome model for ministry. Whether you’re preaching the Word behind the pulpit, leading a small group Bible study, or directing traffic in the church parking lot, it’s important to realize we’re not to draw attention to ourselves. All the glory and honor is to go to God, as we serve Him. That was something the apostle Paul understood very well.

Some speculate that he committed suicide, others suggest the Amalekite finished him off. And still others say that God did it. Whatever conclusion you reach, pastor Ed will draw out some helpful lessons, like how to deal effectively with our flesh.

David would learn a valuable lesson from the life of Saul as we’re about to see today. God used King Saul in David’s life to teach a critical lesson, and that is what the end of the wicked will be and what unbridled sin leads to. Saul didn’t end his life well, but that doesn’t have to be your story.

Think back to a time in your life when you were living life according to your will and by your own resources. You had turned your back on God and tried it your own way, and then failed miserably. David, a man after God’s own heart, went down that path for 16 months before he finally turned back to God. But the Lord didn’t give up on Him, and was waiting patiently and faithfully for His wayward child to return. We get the details in First Samuel 30, and that’s where we join pastor Ed Taylor for this encouraging edition of Abounding Grace.

The Lord wants us to keep going and growing in our relationship with Him, but there are times when some Christians backslide for one reason or another. Maybe that’s descriptive of where you’re at today? As we visit First Samuel thirty today David is in a 16 month backslide, but after great difficulty he’s going to come back to the Lord! In one of the beautiful portraits of God’s grace in all of Scripture, we see the Lord is right there waiting for him.
