Communion with Jesus Part 2

February 24, 2024

Have you ever stopped to think for a moment about what life would be like if it weren’t for the sacrificial death of Jesus on the Cross? Life would be pointless, futile and empty. In fact that can pretty much sum up any life today that doesn’t include a relationship with Jesus. Today on Abounding Grace pastor Ed Taylor continues our verse by verse study of First Corinthians with a look what communion is all about. The church in Corinth had lost sight of this, let’s make sure we don’t do the same.

We’re traveling through Genesis one verse at a time, here on Abounding Grace.  Pastor Ed Taylor has an eye on Genesis chapter two where a very real choice is before Adam and Eve!   Will they choose to follow God’s path, or the path of sin and rebellion?  It’s a choice we have to make on a regular basis.

We’re in Genesis two today talking about the perfect rest and perfect garden. It’s important to note that after God created for six days, He then rested. Pastor Ed believes that’s a model for us to follow.  We work, then rest.

We’re in a study of Genesis right now, and today we enter chapter two.  God has just finished His creation and He’s content!  What does He do next?  He rested!   We’ll be talking about the perfect rest and perfect garden over the next two broadcasts.

Where did we come from, why are we here?  Those are important questions, and the book of Genesis provides answers.  Today on Abounding Grace we return to the creation account in Genesis chapter one.  We’ll zero in on days 5 and 6 where God creates air and sea creatures, the animals and us!  Yes God created it all.  It’s not by chance or from some big bang.

We’ll be talking about the 6 literal days of creation, and we’re on day four!  God created everything… from you and me, the animals, sea, light, universe and even the stars!  Knowing where we came from and why we’re here is important, and you’re about to see why!

If your church is like ours, you gather for communion every so often. But why do we do that?  Pastor Ed is about to show us the essence of communion is coming together and sharing the life of Jesus together.  But the church at Corinth had lost sight of this, and some problems were occurring surrounding communion.

Genesis chapter one tells of how God created.  And we want to take some time to appreciate the well thought out work of creation.  Only God could pull this off.  We established last time that there’s good reason to believe these are six literal 24 hour days of creation and then God rested on the 7th.

How did we get here?  How did everything around us come into being?  We get some wonderful clues in Genesis chapter one, and that’s where we’re headed on Abounding Grace.  Pastor Ed Taylor is just getting started in Genesis, a book about the beginnings.  Today we’ll again camp out in the first twelve verses.

In classrooms all over the country, students are being taught that there was some sort of big bang, when trying to explain the world around us and how we got here.   But the truth of the matter is, God is the one that created the world and everything in it and around it.  Including you and me.  Let’s spend some time considering the beginning of it all, today on Abounding Grace.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth!  As Christians we believe and receive that by faith, but is there also evidence to back that up?  Let’s talk about it today on Abounding Grace.  Pastor Ed Taylor is in the early stages of a new study in Genesis, where we’re learning how everything came to be.  Some claim there was some sort of explosion causing order.  But the Bible says something entirely different.
