Psalm 57:1

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.

Disasters come to all of our lives, Christians and non-Christians alike. Not everyone suffers the same disasters, but they are a part of the human experience. But in the midst of the disasters, God promises us a place of refuge. Where pain, suffering, heartache, disappointment, and even abuse have touched your life, I would encourage you to not allow those things to define you. Don’t build a wall of anger, frustration, or hostility. Don’t withdraw into self-pity. Don’t withdraw from God. Run to Him. Take refuge in the shadow of His wings until the disaster has passed. God is faithful to bring you through.

Heavenly Father, You have shown me mercy and delivered me from destruction. You have brought me into Your Kingdom, and I lift my voice in praise and thanksgiving. Lord, lift me above any turmoil in my life and guide me into the shelter of Your wings. Open my eyes to see Your protection and purpose. In Jesus’ name, amen.
