Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
This verse is easy to read but hard to put into practice. Think of the things in your life that you’re responsible to protect—your family, your house, your car, your finances, even your identity. All of those things are perfectly appropriate, and we put a lot of time and energy into them. But how many of us even think about including our heart’s condition in that list, much less putting it at the top? It’s tempting to spend more time on other things than on the state of our heart. Yet this verse tells us our spiritual condition should be our top priority because everything else flows out of that.
Heavenly Father, forgive me for making things like my home, family, or finances more important to me than my heart’s condition. Give me a hunger and thirst for Your Word and help me to tuck Your truth into my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
