The Defining Point
Romans 10:9 (NIV®)
If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord. That last phrase is somewhat different. It’s not about Jesus’ position in the Trinity. It’s not about His title. It’s about the relationship we have with Him. There will be all sorts of beings in hell who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Even the devil and the demons believe that, but they chose not to confess Him as Lord. One of the mistakes we make is thinking that sitting in church or embracing a set of rules makes us a Jesus-follower. The real defining point with regard to the Kingdom of God is our decision about our relationship with Jesus of Nazareth and whether we choose to yield to Him as Lord of our lives.
THINK ABOUT IT
Is Jesus truly Lord of your life—your whole life? Lord of your relationships? Your resources? Lord of your hopes and dreams?
Heavenly Father, I believe You sent Your Son to earth for me and that He died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead so that I could have life. Forgive me for thinking I could do anything to save myself or that through self-effort I could be accepted by You. I choose to yield my whole life to You—all of my relationships, my resources, and my hopes and dreams—knowing fully that Your plan for my life is perfect. In Jesus’ name, amen.
