Speak the Good
They despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD. So he swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert.
The Hebrew people who had seen God deliver them from slavery and provide everything they needed had several responses: They despised the good things from God. They didn’t believe His promises. They grumbled. And they were disobedient. As a consequence God said, “You can just die where you are.” If we listed our top ten sins, I’ll bet that we would not include ingratitude, unbelief, grumbling, and disobedience. The New Testament says the story of that generation was written down as a warning for us, so let’s not presume upon the grace of God. Let’s believe. Let’s be obedient. Let’s be grateful.
Heavenly Father, I repent for grumbling. I know it does not accomplish anything, and it is a bad habit to allow in my life that not only affects me but those around me. I believe You love me and have good things in store for me. Give me a spirit of joy that I may see and speak the good in all circumstances. In Jesus’ name, amen.
