Righteous Right Hand

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV®)

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

What are you afraid of? Some of us have trouble admitting our fear, but fear is a part of life. And if you are not afraid of anything, you are not paying attention! What you are afraid of, though, makes a difference. You’ve probably seen lists of phobias, like papyrophobia, the fear of paper, and cometophobia, the fear of being hit by a falling comet. They are funny if they are not your phobias. You are more likely to be afraid of losing your job or facing rejection or being diagnosed with a serious disease. God has given us an antidote for fear, and it is trust―not trust in ourselves and our abilities, but trust in Him. He has promised to strengthen us, help us, and uphold us; and I can think of no more powerful protection than His “righteous right hand.”

What are the things that frighten you? Are you able to trust God with your fears? Has trust become more than a theory? Has it moved from your head into your heart?

Heavenly Father, my life is open before You; I desire to hide nothing. Forgive me for not trusting You with my fears. Lord, I will look to You to strengthen me and uphold me with Your righteous right hand when I am afraid. In Jesus’ name, amen.
