Involved with Jesus

Luke 17:26-27 (NIV®)

“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.”

It is a very human tendency to want our own desires fulfilled rather than to want the purposes of God fulfilled in our lives. Noah preached the whole time he was building an ark and accumulating a zoo, but he didn’t get one convert. Jesus said the people continued eating, drinking, and marrying—all very normal activities—but they were oblivious to the purposes of God unfolding in such an obvious way around them. Jesus says people will be just as unaware on the day He is revealed. Even for Jesus-followers, no matter how many signs He provides or invitations He gives to be involved in His plans, it’s easy to think, “This message is not for me!” I suggest that you begin your day with a simple prayer: “Lord, is there anything You would like to show me today? Is there anything I can do for You―at work, in my family, with my neighbors?” Be willing to invite God into the activities of your day. And when you feel Him giving you an opportunity to be involved in His purposes, take it.

Do you look for the Lord at work around you and invite God into the activities of your day? Reflect on ways you can intentionally cultivate the habit of doing those things.

Heavenly Father, I choose to fix my eyes on Jesus. I humbly ask that You would give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that I might know Him better. Open the eyes of my heart. Enlighten me that I might know the hope to which You have called me, the glorious inheritance in the saints that awaits, and Your great power for us who believe. Grant me strength that I might not grow weary and lose heart. My desire is to complete my course in a way that honors You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
