Devotional Archives for Time With God, with John North

Maybe your spiritual life is the fruit of the faithful prayers of your parents or your grandparents. God wants you to learn to give the gift of prayer to those you care about.

God’s challenging you to change your prayer focus from asking for what you want, to asking for what Jesus wants in your life. How can you know what He wants? By spending lots of time with Him!

Do you hear God’s warm invitation to you today? Ask, seek, knock. He is ready to respond from His good Father’s heart.

It is humility and brokenness that God is looking for in those who pray to Him. He is “high and holy” but also so deeply compassionate that He pays attention to “the contrite and lowly of spirit”.

When you ask God to meet you in your deep places of inner need, does He point to something that hurts His heart and ask you to turn away from it? Don’t try to hide that from God.

Are there things in your life that you hoped would bring you fulfilment, things you’ve allowed to have first place—taking God’s rightful place?

God wants you to rest in your relationship with Him and totally be at peace, even when facing death.

Jesus’ resurrection from the dead was “the first fruits” of those who’d be raised. That means that He was just the first of many.

God is reminding you today that, as a Christian, life after death is something to be very excited about. Your enthusiastic confidence about that makes you radically different from the people around you. So let them see it!

God wants you to know that if He could find no other way, then neither can you. But how He longs for you to take the way He has provided at such a great cost. He wants you to be with Him for all eternity.
