Peace in Your House
Then David said to Abigail: “Blessed is the Lord God of Israel, who sent you this day to meet me! And blessed is your advice and blessed are you, because you have kept me this day from coming to bloodshed and from avenging myself with my own hand. For indeed, as the Lord God of Israel lives, who has kept me back from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely by morning light no males would have been left to Nabal!” So David received from her hand what she had brought him, and said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. See, I have heeded your voice and respected your person.”
1 Samuel 25:32-35
As Abigail spoke, David recognized that her wisdom and knowledge was from the Lord. He blessed her greatly because he now realized God had stopped him from shedding blood and taking matters into his own hands.
David told Abigail to return home in peace––no harm would come to her household. Her family was spared. Knowing that trouble had been prevented, Abigail could now go to her home in peace.
Some husbands are very proud, and they will not take counsel from their wives. It is important to listen to your godly wife. Sit down with her and communicate. It is important to listen to her and allow the Lord to speak to your heart. Take what she has said to the Lord in prayer, and then make your decision. Then there will be peace in your house.
However, there needs to be a balance. As in the case of Abraham and Sarah, he should not have listened to his wife. Sarah tried to bring about the promises of God through her own means; she should have waited on the Lord for a child––patience. Instead, she influenced her husband to take matters into his own hands (Genesis 16:1-4).
