Do You Have a Burden for the Lost?

Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
Romans 10:1-2

Paul began Romans 10 with such a sincere prayer. His heart’s desire was for people to be saved, especially the people of Israel. Yet the Jews hated Paul. Even though God had called Paul to preach the Gospel to the Gentiles, he fervently prayed that salvation would come to the people of God. Paul knew they had a zeal for God, but in reality, they were going nowhere because they remained ignorant of the knowledge of salvation. They had not received the righteousness of God through Christ by faith.

Like Paul, Christians are set apart and called by God to preach the Gospel. We need to be His servants and missionaries. How many missionaries have paid the ultimate price and have given their lives for the Gospel’s sake? There are many of them. Believers must know the full Gospel of Jesus Christ as proclaimed in the Scriptures; then they can be used by God to preach the Gospel with power.

Seriously, if you see that someone is drowning in a pool, your instant reaction is to jump into the pool to save them. But if you hesitate, it could become seconds too late––the person could drown. Sharing the Gospel should be natural without hesitation. When Christians are given an opportunity to share the Gospel, we should not have to think about it, but just react to give people the saving message of the Gospel!

Do you have a burden for people to be saved? What about your friends and your family? The opportunity is right now! Once they die it is too late.

Preach with authority. The authority for us is the Word of God. Preach with simplicity . . . Preach with urgency . . . heaven and hell are at stake. Preach for a decision.”
