A Passion for Serving the Lord

…not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
Romans 12:11-13

Paul gave believers many practical exhortations. The key to every action a believer makes is to keep in mind that they are serving the Lord. Christians serve God––not man. God has called us to follow Him. We have chosen this incredible life, and although rewarding, we may often find the way of a Christian life lonely.

When life becomes difficult Christians cannot permit themselves to grow cold. How do we keep ourselves on fire for the Lord? It is through prayer. Prayer is very important in the life of a believer, as prayer will help them to continue to have a consuming passion for God’s will in our lives.

Make sure you are right with God when you pray; otherwise you will hinder your prayers. Make sure you are not harboring anything against anyone. Seriously, get right with God so your prayers can be answered. The Apostle James tells us: …the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). Righteous prayers from righteous people will be answered.

Paul also reminded Christians to enter into the needs of others––be involved. When you see someone in need, do you help them financially? Do you stop to pray for hurting people? We do this because we are Christians. Seriously, instead of helping people in the church, Christians can kick the wounded when they are down. We should not do that! Christian character starts with love and ends with love. Love is the key! Christians are also to be hospitable. It is good to make ourselves available to other believers, minister to them, and make them feel welcomed.

Read your Bibles, pray and seek the Lord in using all the gifts and talents He has given to you.

Spiritual gifts are tolls to build with, not toys to play with or weapons to fight with.
