Destroying the Work of God

Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All things indeed are pure, but it is evil for the man who eats with offense. It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak.
Romans 14:19-21

Paul focused a believer’s heart and attitude on eternity––the kingdom of God. What a joy it is to be saved, and to be born again of the Holy Spirit! What beautiful peace a believer has in Christ. They have been forgiven for every one of their sins!

Therefore, Christians should not be arguing over the minor issues of life such as eating and drinking. Neither should a believer’s Christian liberties be used to stumble a brother or sister. It is possible to push them away from following Christ their Redeemer. Why cause a division in the church? Seriously, Satan can use these foolish arguments over food to destroy the work of God––sad.

Instead of judging other believers, we need to pray for them. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, pursue peace, walking in love and righteousness. Be at peace with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Be a peacemaker! Christians should be focused on eternity, and influencing other people toward heaven. That is why it is important to build people up in the faith, and do not tear them down––so important.

If you have made anyone stumble in the body of Christ, it would be good to apologize to anyone you have offended. May God speak to your heart.

The peace-makers are those who are at peace with God and who show that they are truly children of God by striving to use every opportunity open to them to effect reconciliation between others who are at variance.
