Thinking too High of Yourself?

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another.
Romans 12:3-5

Paul will explain how God has given believers spiritual gifts according to His will. A person has to know their gifts and their limits. They need to be content with where God has them in the body of Christ. Unfortunately, some people think too highly of themselves. They have the mentality that they can do anything in the body of Christ. Usually they end up failing. It becomes obvious to people watching their lives because they see them striving to be in a place God has not intended for them to be. Then on the flip side, there are those who do absolutely nothing.

Moses was a man who had a close relationship with God, but he became overzealous. He thought he could take care of God’s people from sun up to sun down! Not so! God used Jethro, Moses’ father in-law, to speak with Moses. He kindly rebuked Moses, saying, “What are you doing? Do you think you are superman, and can handle all these people and make decisions without any assistance?” Moses listened to his advice and assigned other men to help judge matters among the people (Exodus 18).

In the Church, there are assistant pastors to help the senior pastor. God has a chain of command. It is important in life to delegate responsibilities. Most people have an eight hour day to accomplish their tasks. Know the gifts God has given to you and others so you finish projects. However, spend time with God in the morning, otherwise you will never accomplish anything. If you do not have communion with God, you will have no sense of direction spiritually. How do you expect to do the will of God when you do not even know it?

How do you want your life to be remembered? People in history did something with their lives. You can read their autobiographies. Who will your life impact? What will your children remember most about you?

Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself less.
