Deep Anguish
So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive.
1 Samuel 30:3-5
When David and his men arrived back home to Ziklag, they found destruction. The Amalekites had attacked and taken with them all their wives and children. Everyone was gone––captured. David was still not walking in close communion with God. David was not being a good spiritual leader. He was in the land of his enemies, and he had left his family unprotected.
Every one of David’s men was beside themselves with sorrow. They were devastated by this unexpected attack. They wept until they could weep no more. Yet God was in complete control; He had allowed these circumstances to happen. I believe God used this devastating situation to get David’s attention––to wake him up, and cause him to seek the Lord.
How many families in the Church are under spiritual attack? When the spiritual leader in the home is not right with God; the family can come under attack. The woman and children can be taken captive by the enemy. Fathers and grandfathers need to make sure they are walking with God and take the spiritual leadership of their homes seriously; otherwise God has His ways of getting their attention.
As the leader in the home, are you walking with God or are you backslidden? If backslidden, what is it going to take before you wake up and seek the Lord?
Distractions may hinder, but once the heart is committed to Him, the attention will return again and rest upon Him like a wandering bird coming back to its window.
