Tried and Tested

Blessed is the man who endures temptation….
James 1:12

The Apostle James continued to address the subject of trials. We know that none of us like trials, but the fact is, Christians will face intense trials sometime in their lives. During this time, the devil can make them feel condemned and defeated. He may cause thoughts that  bring confusion into their hearts and minds. Some believers may question whether the trial they are experiencing is due to sin in their lives. They can begin to question, “Did I do something wrong?”

James revealed the real reason why God allows trials in our lives in James 1:2-4. God is building genuine Christian character in the life of the believer.  I believe character building is very necessary. When tested, Christians do not want to be found to have a faulty character. This is seen when a person continues to compromise; they have failed the test.

Believers in Christ need to obey God’s Word to pass the test. When you are tried by the Lord and you fail the test, you will have to retake the test until you pass it.The word endure means “to be steadfast.” Christians need to remain strong in the Lord and not be easily persuaded to compromise. They are to remain unmovable in their obedience to God’s Word.

One of the ways Christians can fail the test is when they begin to murmur and complain. When Christians are going through a hard trial, what is one of the first things that happens to them? There is a loss of joy in their hearts! Seriously, what should our Christian attitude be towards trials? Remember what James told us: …count it all joy when you fall into various trials… (James 1:2).

Has Satan robbed you of your joy?

“…the joy of the Lord is our strength.”
~Nehemiah 8:10~
