A Given Aim

And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, but as it is written: “To whom He was not announced, they shall see; and those who have not heard shall understand.”
Romans 15:20-21

Paul made it his aim not to preach the Gospel in places that already had an established church. He never wanted to build on another man’s foundation. Paul wanted to preach the Gospel to people who were not saved. Why would someone want to build on another man’s foundation and take away people who are already saved from another church? Shame on them! They should never do that.

When a person is sent out by God, they need to preach to the lost! They should pray and wait on the Lord to see where He would have them go. It is important to build a church where there are no other churches in close proximity. They need to trust in God. He is the One who adds to the church daily and brings fruitfulness to a ministry. Understand, all Christian churches are a part of the body of Jesus Christ.

Then Paul quoted from Isaiah 52:15, which is a prophecy about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. When He comes, He will bring judgment:

So shall He sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; for what had not been told them they shall see, and what they had not heard they shall consider.

This Scripture is speaking of the Gentiles––those who thought that Jesus would never come again. They are going to see Jesus, but it will be too late for salvation for most of them. During the reign of the Antichrist, the majority of people will have received the mark of the Beast. They cannot be saved (Revelation 13:16). Yet there will be Jews and Gentiles who did not take this mark. They will be saved, and they can enter into the Kingdom Age to live for a thousand years.

"I have but one candle of life to burn, and I would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than in a land flooded with light."
