Praying for the Saints

For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always. . . .
Romans 1:9

Underline this Scripture in your Bible. Paul served the Lord with his whole spirit––his entire being. He did not serve any particular denomination or church; He served the Lord, the person of God’s Son––the Lord Jesus Christ.

God had placed such a passion for souls in the heart of Paul. He had God’s great compassion. It is seen in the way he truly became an intercessor for the believers in Rome. He had the genuine heart of a shepherd and cared for other people’s lives. He was called to watch over the flock of God. As a shepherd, he never wanted to see people’s lives destroyed.

Those called into the ministry need to have the heart of God for the people they are called to serve. They cannot be hirelings––in the ministry for their own personal gain. A person who is a hireling will do their own thing, have their own agenda. They are utterly selfish. If a shepherd does not love the sheep, he will not spend time in prayer for the flock. What a difference was seen in the life of Paul! He sincerely cared for the flock and prayed for them unceasingly.

It is important to pray to God on behalf of others. Your necessary and ceaseless intercession will protect your children and grandchildren. Imagine, through prayer you can also reach places such as China, Africa and India. The prayers of the saints are around the throne of God! It may take time before your prayers are answered, but God will respond to every sincere prayer. Never give up praying; it is a Christian’s most powerful weapon.

When we work, we work. When we pray, God works.
